Bishop's call to 'Bring your Bible to church.'
The Bishop of Chichester Dr Martin Warner launches the Year of the Bible this Advent Sunday 27 November and is encouraging people to bring their Bibles to church on Advent 2 December 4. The aims of the year are education and engagement - encouraging our congregations to gain a new understanding of the Bible and its importance, and as a result engage with it more deeply in their own discipleship. Packs will reach parishes in the next week to share with your congregations.

New parish for growing community
The new Parish and Benefice of St. Mark’s, Holbrook (in the Diocese of Chichester) was previously a part of the Horsham Team Ministry, but following the Crawley and Horsham Ministerial Review, it was decided that the new Parish of Holbrook should be created to serve the growing population in the north of Horsham. A special service was held  led by Bishop Mark and Archdeacon Fiona to celebrate the establishment of the new parish.  More here

Schools and the Year of the Bible 2017
  • Art Competition
We have invited all our church schools to take part in an Art Competition to celebrate the Year of the Bible. Details are on the schools website electronically and each of our schools has also been sent a hard copy pack. The closing date for registering for the competition is December 21st and the final closing date for entries is March 31st. There will be a variety of prizes and an exhibition will be held for winners and finalists. There are different themes and age categories including one for adults connected with the school. Please encourage your schools to enter and perhaps hold an exhibition of their work in the church! More details from
  • Understanding Christianity is a new resource for teaching Christianity in RE in primary and secondary schools. It is based around the Big Story in the Bible. To receive the resources, which we have purchased in advance, schools need to enrol in the 15 hour training programme. As schools will need ongoing support from the Clergy, we have organised a training day on 31st March 2017. The Apostolic Life Department is helping to fund this training day, therefore there is no fee payable.
  • Open the Book is a great way for churches to take part in collective worship by fielding a team to tell dramatized Bible Stories. We have already trained some parishes and are willing to do another round if there is demand.
  • Leadership Training. We are running a half day training for school leaders and clergy together with Dr Peter Shaw called Leading Well in Demanding Times.  Clergy can use their CPD money to pay their half! It is on January 17th in the morning at St Andrew’s Church, Furnace Green, Crawley.
  • There is a regional conference on May 26th for leadership teams including clergy as part of the National Institute for Educational Leadership. It is at the Salomon’s Estate in Tunbridge Wells and we have 80 places to fill.
Enquiries for all these training events should be made to Yasmin Heasman  or 01273 425687
