Musically Speaking

This month’s Musically Speaking is contributed by Guy Urban.

Charlyn is officially the FPW Music Director, and I am officially the accompanist, although it’s probably pretty obvious that we work together on almost every aspect of music at FPW.  For a long time after we were hired, I didn’t think much about how that collaboration actually functioned.  Several things have made me think about it more: finally having an empty nest without our kids; both of us retiring from our full-time teaching jobs at the same time; and now, living and working together during pandemic quarantine.  All of these things have brought our FPW Music activities increasingly to center stage in our lives, and I have been reflecting on how that process actually works.

Come to a Mulching Party!

On Saturday, June 20, beginning at 9:00 AM, the Garden Guild and the Building and Grounds Committee will host the social event of the season, and you won’t want to miss it!
To keep our beautiful new garden and the rest of our grounds in tip-top shape, we will be spreading mulch in all the necessary places (at an appropriate social distance, of course). It will be a big job, and we’ll need lots of workers! Even if you only have half an hour to spare, please come by to share in the fun and help to care for our church grounds.

Please bring the following:
            YOUR MASK!
A wheelbarrow if you have one
            A rake
            A shovel or pitchfork
Thanks! We look forward to seeing you there.

Rain date: Saturday, June 27, 9:00 AM.

How can we better help one another in times of struggle?

Do you or someone at FPW need temporary assistance to get through a challenging time?  The Fellowship Committee has established an FPW Caring Circle that can offer help. We can set up a Meal Train site where you can list needs for meals, rides or other services during short term difficulties and distribute the information to the congregation via email. For more information, simply email and let us know how we can help.

This Sunday we will be worshiping together online using Zoom.

If you haven’t yet used Zoom, you’ll want to go to, click “Join Meeting,” and download the software. Then you’ll be all set for Sunday morning. There is a link for joining by computer, laptop, or smartphone, as well as a phone number for joining on any telephone, that was sent out through Breeze to all church members and friends - if you did not receive it, please contact Wendy ( or Allison ( and we will send it to you.

The worship service will begin at our normal time - 10:30am - but you are encouraged to join the video call early so you can get tech support if you need it. The Zoom Room will open at 10:00am.

If you would like to be a greeter for a Zoom service, please contact Izzy Tappan-deFrees

Welcome to the
Watertown Mutual Aid Network,

funded by the Watertown Community Foundation in association with Wayside Youth & Family Support Network’s
Multi-Service Center.

Mutual aid is a way for Watertown neighbors to support each other, by delivering food, making weekly calls for social support, supporting each other with tutoring and technology, and in many other ways. By following this link, you will find information about how to use mutual aid, forms to offer and request aid from your Watertown neighbors, and additional resources.

Please reach out to Sophia, our Community Coordinator, at or 617-744-9585 if you have any questions or wish to offer or request aid over the phone (translation services are available). We hope that this resource will bring our community together during this difficult time.
