OPERATION RED NOSE CAMPAIGN

December 2016
The 20th Annual Operation Red Nose campaign in Kamloops has started off strong in the first two weekends. With the help of 175 volunteers in the famous red vests, we have driven home 378 people and have raised $7600 in donations. The campaign continues on December 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 26, 30, & 31. For a safe ride home call 250-372-5110.

CAAWS Workshop: Managing Conflict

This workshop looks at different personalities and how you and others process conflict. Learn how you can communicate more effectively when there are a variety of personalities involved. Guest Presenter: Niki Remesz, owner of Uniquely Inspired Marketing and speaker with CAAWS (Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport). All attendees will receive Non-NCCP Professional Development Credits

NCCP - Making Ethical Decisions

By successfully completing the Make Ethical Decisions (MED) training, coaches will be fully equipped to handle ethical situations with confidence and surety. MED training helps coaches identify the legal, ethical, and moral implications of difficult situations that present themselves in the world of team and individual sport.

Coaches Corner

These casual lunch & learn events are a great opportunity for Coaches and Sport Administrators to learn from presenters in various fields and network with other coaches. We meet every 2 months, usually on the 2nd Thursday of the month. There is no fee to attend; however, if you'd like a bite to eat, that's on you. We wish we could treat our community coaches to lunch every time we meet!!

Congratulations to IGNITE Alumni & Alpine Ski Racer, Beckett Hooton, who has been selected to attend this Alpine Canada Rising Stars camp at Panorama Mountain Resort THIS week for U16 racers! Way to go!

Congratulations to the Sahali Sabres & Valleyview Vikings women’s volleyball teams who represented Kamloops and the Interior BC region at the AA Highschool Provincial Championships in Abbotsford Dec 2-4 with 6th & 11th placings respectively!  Well done! Read article here




 
Congratulations to PacificSport Chair, Ron McColl and his wife Patricia who have recently become grandparents again to a beautiful baby grand daughter Kaitlyn.
 


Former PacificSport carded athlete, Blaine Boomer was selected to the Victoria Select Box Lacrosse Team and they won the Australian National Box Championships in Melbourne. Congratulations!

GIRLS CONFERENCE

On the Monday, December 5th Pro D Day over 30 girls joined us for the first Empower You Girls Conference at the Tournament Capital Centre. A big thank you to Riptech Diving Club, Kamloops Sunrays Syncro Club, The City of Kamloops Aquatics Department, 3 time Olympian and Bronze Medalist Catharine Pendrel, KYSA & TRU Varsity soccer athletes, Kelly Eberts from SNAP Fitness and Amber Hooton from Yoga with Amber for being a part of the day and helping make the day a success! The girls tried a variety of sports and activities and had a ton of fun day!

You may have seen the commercials on TV during the Rio Olympics and in recent months...
 
All athletes (ages 14-24) and sport organizations with athletes in this age range are encouraged to register later this winter for a chance to attend an RBC Training Ground Regional Qualifier event, in Kamloops, February 12th, 2017 at the TCC. Recently a partnership through the Canadian Olympic Foundation was secured for two National sponsors to expand this program Nationally.

This new national program is called RBC Training Ground (watch video here).

My family celebrates both Chanukah and Christmas, which can mean more preparation, more parties, more presents, and more food. What it doesn’t always mean is more time being active, and sometimes the balance between healthy eating and indulging tips in the wrong direction. These are things that I suspect lots of people struggle with no matter which holidays they celebrate. So I went to our trusty AfL Role Models and asked them: What tips to you have for staying healthy over the holidays? How do you combat the stress and the overeating? Do you have an active holiday tradition?

REMINDER: SIRC and Sport Canada are pleased to invite the sport community to join as an online guest at their  webinar as part of the Governor General’s Conference on Concussions in Sport: “We Can Do Better” on Tuesday December 6, 2016 starting at 9am (EST). The objectives of the conference are to bring together federal, provincial and territorial government representatives and key stakeholders in the sport, recreation, health and education sectors to advance collaboration in the development of a national approach to manage, detect and prevent concussions.
