We're staying at home

This is our first Make It Blue London newsletter and we thought it was important to send it now. As we all know the coronavirus pandemic has changed everything around us, from the way we shop to the effect of the lockdown in business and markets.

As many of you, we were looking forward to our next even in April and consolidate the hard work the team and traders put during the harsh winter months. Unfortunately, the social distancing measures make it difficult to carry on as usual , especially since Southwark Council closed all street markets temporarily.

Yet there is no reason why we can all enjoy this period of inactivity in the market to use our creativity and find inspiration. We hope you will continue to be interested in the market once we are allowed to trade again in The Blue, here in Bermondsey.

In the meantime, stay home, stay safe and see you all soon!

It's time to shop online

If you've been trading in street markets but haven't opened your own online shop, now it's the right time do so. The lockdown means thousands of people are buying more online and your business can benefit of it. Packaging and sending the products can be more challenging than usual and it's worth thinking about costs and margins if you have never traded online.
Think about it, give it a go and start selling online!

Let's be social

Many of our traders are quite savvy when it comes to social media promotion. For those of you who haven't been very active on it, the current coronavirus restrictions means social media is the best and perhaps the only way to promote your products online. Having an Etsy or Big Cartel shop is not enough unless it is promoted.

We want to help you and we're happy to retweet or share your tweets, posts or like your Instagram photos, just remember to mention us when you post on social media. ( Scroll down this newsletter to find the links)

Food traders needed

While we had many enquiries about crafts, we'd love to hear from food producers, especially located around the SE16 area who are interested in being a Make It Blue trader once we reopen for business. If you're interested, send us an email to info@makeitblue.london with the subject Food Trader Enquiry

Financial advice

Whether you are a sole trader or a company, Blue Bermondsey BID has put tens of links to information about grants and financial help and advice for businesses and employers. Visit www.bluebermondey.co.uk/coronavirus

A new market

For those of you who came to our last event in March, you may remember the presentation of the brand new market with fixed and temporary structures, a new clock tower, bigger green spaces and place for people to relax. In addition to this, the building occupied by the former Thorowgoods shop (seen on the left of the photo) will be transformed in a new cultural hub in South Bermondsey  with cinema, bar and cafe.  We want the Make It Blue London market to be part of the transformation of The Blue by bringing the best craft and food produce to the area.
We hope you enjoyed this newsletter. We only send emails with updates about our upcoming market events, call outs for traders and highlights of new traders. You can unsubscribe at any time using the options at the end of this email. Thanks for supporting Make It Blue
