Dear innovators,

This week the new subsidies for research & innovation are announced!

The spectacular growth expectations for offshore wind energy create challenges in our energy system. Integrating vast amounts of electric power is a challenge for the energy transition in the medium term. Our innovation program targets the development of solutions in the field of flexibility, conversion and storage. This can include onshore or offshore production of hydrogen. An additional MOOI tender with a budget of 13 million euros will be launched to support research and innovation projects in this area. Please check out our website.

Cost reduction remains another key topic. You may have attended our last event TKI Wind op Zee LIVE, on this topic and next week, on 2 March, the second edition of TKI Wind op Zee LIVE on System Integration will be held. You can read more on that further in the newsletter.

And there is more good news: the Renewable Energy Scheme (Hernieuwbare Energieregeling (HER+) has been announced to re-open on the 1st  of April with a budget of € 50 million. Cost reduction innovations for offshore wind are part of this call.

In this newsletter, read about subsidies, the Masterclass Finance, Horizon Europe information events and more. Enjoy reading,

Best regards,
Bob Meijer

Pioneering SME – GBM Works

A silent and fast method for installing monopiles

In Pioneering SME, we give the floor to start-ups or SMEs that offer groundbreaking solutions to problems in the offshore wind sector. This time: GBM Works. GBM Works developed a method to install monopiles in a silent and fast way. The vibratory hammer with a jet gun is not only cheaper and less harmful to marine life, but the process is also kept strictly under control. After successful onshore tests, founder Ben Arntz is now preparing to put it to a nearshore test this autumn, together with an impressive consortium.

€ 200,000 additional funding - Innovation Brokers Scheme (Innovatiemakelaars)

Once again the Topsector Energy will provide additional funding for SMEs who want to hire an ‘innovation broker’. The compensation for hiring an innovation broker will be 80% of the costs incurred, up to a maximum of € 10,000 (incl. VAT) per SME.

An innovation broker can assist SME-entrepreneurs in, among other things: developing a business plan, patent advice, attracting investors, deal closing around financing or setting up consortia.Applications for the subsidy can be submitted to the Topsector Energy from 25 January 2021.

Entrepreneurs active in the field of TKI Wind op Zee can make use of this scheme. Additional information about the scheme and its preconditions can be found here.

Masterclass Finance – extended due to success

Every business needs financing to grow. The different forms of financing all have their conditions, advantages and disadvantages. As an entrepreneur in the energy sector, how do you find the financing instrument that suits your company? To gain more insight into this, the Financing Desk of the Topsector Energy and New Energy Coalition will be organising a Finance Masterclass. During this online Masterclass, experts share their experiences and give participants an up-to-date overview of public and private financial instruments.

The Masterclass will take place via a webinar on 15 April from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
