Hi again from OutCasting!
This is the first in a planned monthly newsletter from OutCasting. We hope you'll enjoy it!
First, we've just launched a new series, OutCasting OffAir, a monthly online feature designed to supplement our on-air content, which is aired on more than 45 public radio stations around the country. We expect to release each OffAir feature on or about the first of each month.
The first episode is a discussion between Elliot, a transgender and bisexual boy, and Jay, a genderfluid person. Both are participants in our NYC Bureau. The June 1 episode will be a short audio essay detailing Brianna's worst lie; Brianna is a participant in our home studio in Westchester County, New York.
We've also got a new episode just released and airing this week on Pacifica — Elliot's first-person account of growing up bisexual and then discovering he's also transgender. This is the debut episode from our NYC Bureau, a collaboration between OutCasting and the Hetrick-Martin Institute.
We've got our hands full on upcoming episodes as well. We're nearing completion of a program exploring the issues transgender people in getting appropriate health care, and are just getting started on an episode that takes a look at the backlash against last year's marriage equality decision from the Supreme Court.
And there's been some recent press about our NYC Bureau and our new bureau at Michigan State University!
We continue to look for new people to join our board. If you know of anyone who might be a good fit, please let us know
It's your support that makes OutCasting possible. Thank you!
All our best,
Marc and the OutCasting team
