Informational Interviews: How do I ask for one?
Informational interviews are exactly what they sound, about information. Our goal here is not necessarily to get a job but to gain information about an industry or a career. Yes, a job in the industry would be great, but right now we want to gain information from a professional in that industry. An easy way to ask for an informational interview is letting them know exactly why you are contacting them. Let them know you want to expand your network in the industry and are hoping they are available for you to take 15 minutes of their time and ask them some questions about their experience in the field and gain their insight. Letting them know you are interested in their experience and insight will allow them to understand you want to hear their perspective and don’t want to “hound” them for employment (at least not yet!).
