Have You Scheduled Your Check Up?
(It’s not what you think.)
Dear Fellow Disciples,
Have you had your annual check up?
I’m not talking about your annual physical, although you should probably do that too.
I’m talking about a Bible check up.
- Do you have a Bible that you can understand?
- Is the print large enough?
- Does it look more like a textbook or a book you want to read?
- Is there dust on the cover or is it well worn?
December is a great time of year to look at the variety of Bible versions and translations out there. And if you need to replace your Bible, why not ask for a new one for Christmas?
I’m telling you all of this in preparation for a Year of Scripture in 2019. You can read all about it in our Bishop’s email.
I have one simple goal for the Year of Scripture: that 70 (or more!) members and friends of Bethlehem develop and deepen the habit of daily Bible reading and reflection.
You’ll hear more about this in the next several weeks and in the new year.
Persevering in Prayer,
Some Other Things
You can triple your gift to feed the hungry in our community today. Go to the Meijer in Bowling Green and at the register tell the cashier you would like to give to the “Simply Give” program. Gifts are tripled on Friday, December 7, but if you’re reading this email after that, all gifts are doubled through December 29.
Have you made your contribution for our beyond-our-walls Christmas offering: Hope for Haiti? We are already 50% of the way to our goal, with over $12,004 raised.
This Sunday you are welcome to join us for a soup and sandwich potluck following the faith formation hour.
Here’s a link to Vicar Tim’s sermon from December 2: Waiting and Hope.
