Meditation

Evelyn Underhill once wrote, “The Church is in the world to save the world. It is a tool of God for that purpose, not a comfortable religious club established in fine historical premises.” Most congregations would agree with her words. I wonder what kind of tool would you consider Bethlehem. A thing to remember is that tools that have a cutting edge to them must periodically have their blades sharpened. The head of a hammer may even need to be replaced if it is used heavily over a period of time.
Let us pray: God of life, we thank you that in Jesus Christ, you have shown us how to live as witnesses to your new creation. Use us to speak your words where there is division and brokenness. Continually show us how to act creatively where ancient habits press humanity toward an old future. Amen.
