MEMBERSHIP MATTERS

CAR STICKERS

In order to make the identification of members' vehicles easier, car stickers can be collected from the Club Office. Please inform the Office if you are planning to leave your car at the club overnight or at times when the office may be closed so that we can inform security.

SECURITY

The gates at the club are secured by padlocks.  If you are first on site, please open the padlocks, scramble the number and leave the padlock open.

The padlocks can be locked when scrambled making locking up at the end of the day simpler.
Due to changes in circumstances, work commitments, illness/injury etc we occasionally have Volunteer Duties that need to be filled at short notice.  Currently we are looking for volunteers on the following date:

Sun 6th Sep - Assistant Race Officer

If you are available to help it would be very much appreciated.  Please contact manager@burghfieldsailing.org

CLUB NEWS

Hole 6.5: The Oppie Fundraiser

Former Burghfield member and Wexham Park Golf Club Ladies' Captain Jackie Taylor recently selected Burghfield Sailability as her chosen charity for 2015.  Jackie recently held her Ladies Charity Day and with support from Peter Colvin, added Hole 6.5 – The Oppie Chipping competition.

The aim was to chip a ball into the Oppie that was floating in the middle of the pond on the 6th hole from about 45 yards.  With over 300 attempts from 89 golfers on the day, the Oppie raised £218. The only ball lifted out at the end of the day, belonged to the Men’s Junior Captain & 4-ball winner.

Support from Berkshire Sail Training with a water fun session, helped to secure a total for the day of just over £1,000.  The Oppie was so successful that it’s been invited back for the Men’s Charity day!

Jackie’s fundraising target for the year is around £3,000. If you'd like to help, donations can be made HERE

Burghfield Sailability

After a very successful summer, the Burghfield Sailability group has only a couple of sessions left this year:
  • 5th Sep - Saturday Sailing only Session, 10:30am-4pm
  • 10th Sep - Last 2015 Thursday Session, 6pm-8pm followed by Sailability Social in the clubroom, 8pm-9:30pm
  • 8th Oct -Thursday Sailability Social, 7:30pm (details to follow)
  • 7th Nov - Saturday Sailability Dinner (details to follow)
If you are interested in helping with the group (on shore or on the water) or would like further details about the opportunities they can provide, please contact info@burghfieldsailability.org.uk

Showers Upgraded

As most of you will have seen and may have experienced by now, the showers at the club have been upgraded. The replacement of the heater units and shower heads are aimed at providing constant hot water at a pre-set temperature.
It is anticipated that the recent experiences of fluctuating temperatures are now a thing of the past and that changing to the new on demand units will be more economical.

Thanks to Peter Colvin who spent a number of weeks researching the different shower units & regulations and for organising the works.  Please let us have your feedback.

2015 BART'S BASH

20th September 2015
Never give up on achieving your goals

Burghfield is already  registered as one of the venues taking part in Bart's Bash this year.
The event coincides with the end of the Sunday Summer Series, end of Saturday Sailing and end of Oppie Club so we're hoping to make it a Brilliant Burghfield Bash!

This year Bart's Bash will consist of one race (details to follow) but we're also planning to incorporate the Buoy Race in the afternoon with fun for all the family, sailors & landlubbers alike.
How many times have you promised your friends and family to take them sailing one day? With the introduction of Bart's Buddies, The Bash is a great day to introduce friends, family and work colleagues to the sport and for them to experience an unforgettable day on the water, participating in the World's Largest Sailing Event.
For further details, and to sign up for this fantstic event, please use the links below. Last year 125 sailors took part in the event, making Burghfield the 10th largest fleet!
