Boat Maintenance
Working Party
20/21 January 2016


The Bosun, Peter Langdon, and team will be carrying out some work on the club Safety Boats (pressure cleaning, hull repairs, etc.) on 20 and 21 January. 
 
Anyone with fibreglass, DIY carpentry/joinery or rope skills would be very much appreciated.  However, if you don’t have any experience, but are happy to  get involved you will be given a full briefing – the more the merrier!
 
Time: 0930 for 1000 start, finishing late afternoon.

Volunteer/Swaps Required


Hopefully, the "Volunteer Required" duties on Dutyman are now swappable (the swap request will come to the office). Please only request to swap to a "Volunteer Required" duty which is BEFORE your allocated duty. 

If you have not yet been allocated a duty for 2016, & are available for a vacant duty please let us know and we will allocate this to you as a rostered duty for the year.

2016 Saturday Sailing Meeting
20 January 2016, 8pm


All members are invited to an open meeting to review/agree the Saturday sailing schedule for this year.

If you participated in any of the Saturday Sailing sessions in 2015 or would like to paticipate this year please come along and share your views.

If you are unable to attend but would like to offer some feedback, suggestions please let us know.

2016 Optimist Winter Open
6 February 2016


Pre-registration for both Main and Regatta fleets is available until midnight 4 February 2016, £15. Registration on the day £20.

Additionally, this event will form part of the Rooster Southern Traveller Series 2016.

Traveller Series Details

Optimist &
Junior Single-handed Winter Training
13th Feb - 12th Mar 2016

 
The IOCA(UK) Thames Valley Area will be running a series of training days between October 2015 and March 2016. There will also be a series of Junior single-handed training days running alongside.

Individual days: £25

For the Optimist training you must be a member of IOCA. For membership details see the IOCA website.

Skittles Evening
27 February 2016, 19:30


All are welcome to come to the Skittles evening on the 27th Feb starting at 7:30 pm. You can enter as an individual, a couple, a group or a team. The more the merrier!

Entry is £5 per person.

As this has been a very successful evening in the past and places are limited, please book early.

Supper will be available: Main Meal (Chicken Korma or Vegetable Lasagne) Â£6/person & Desert (Apple Pie) £2.25/person. Supper must be booked in advance using the booking form.

REMINDER: Buoyancy Aids or Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) must be worn on the water, on the Pontoons & on the Committee Boat.

MEMBERSHIP MATTERS

Renewal Deadline: 31 Jan 2016


Thank you to all those members who have already completed their membership renewals for 2016.  
Please remember to return your form and payment before 31st January (after which a late renewal fee is payable).

If you would still like to pay by direct debit - please  contact Sharon as soon as possible.

2016 Membership Stickers


With 2/3 of the membership already renewed for 2016, new boat stickers will be available shortly.  

In order to reduce postage costs, boat stickers and any renewal information will be available from the Club Office very shortly. Please keep an eye on the website for further information.
The duty rosters for January - March have been published.  If you are unable to do your rostered duty, please try and arrange a swap as soon as possible.  If you are having problems using the dutyman system, please contact the club office and we'll see what we can do to help.

Wanted - Boat Bimbler


The club dinghies have been well used this year by a huge range of members and their guests. We are still looking for a volunteer to oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the Club Dinghies.  If you are interested in getting involved, please let us know.

RYA First Aid Course

13 February 2016

09:00 – 16:30 approx
£60 + current First Aid Manual

The RYA First Aid Course is designed to teach how to resuscitate someone, to recognise life threatening conditions and be able to provide a rapid assessment and give prompt appropriate care to a casualty and get further assistance as required. 

This course is useful for anyone who goes on the water and an RYA requirement for those taking Coastal Skipper and Yacht Master Offshore exams or becoming dinghy, windsurfing or powerboat instructors.  At the end of the course the successful candidate will qualify for the RYA First Aid Certificate which is valid for 3 years from date of issue.

RYA Day Skipper Theory Course

This course is aimed at complete beginners or those with some sailing or motor cruising experience who have little or no knowledge of navigation.

The topics covered include: Charts and Navigation Instruments, Buoys and Channel Markers; Tides and Depths of Water, Electronic Chart Plotters, Weather and the Basic Collision Rules

The course is invaluable for learning how to start making decisions on board and it is advised to take this course prior to attending the Practical Day Skipper course.

The course will run 1st – 5th February 9am – 5pm. Cost £315 for further details please contact Jean or Jonny on 0118 9303467
