2015 Christmas Series

As in previous years, the Christmas Series will have five races with three to count, two on each of the Sundays (20 & 27 Dec) and one on Boxing Day (26th, also the Burghfield Icicle).  Because of the nature of the series, it is expected that the members who decide to race in this series will offer to do a duty whether they have payed the waiver fee or not.  These duties are considered separate to the normal duty system.  Average points will be available (as per normal racing) if you sign on on the day of a duty.  So, if you do offer to help, you will not lose out in the series.

If you intend to do the series, please be generous and offer your assistance as without volunteers, no racing will take place.

If you are available to help please contact the Office
Christmas Series Catering: The Galley will be open as usual on Sunday 20th December but will be CLOSED on 26th and 27th December, so please remember to bring lunch with you.

  • Sailability are looking for additional volunteers.  If you'd like to learn more, why not join one of their social events planned for 2016 - please keep an eye on the calendar for further details, or contact Burghfield Sailability directly.

The duty rosters for January - March have been published.  If you are unable to do your rostered duty, please try and arrange a swap as soon as possible.  If you are having problems using the dutyman system, please contact the club office and we'll see what we can do to help.

Wind Shadow Reduction Scheme

In October a group of hardy volunteers, including a bunch of Blaze sailors made a start on cutting back the vegetation on the Islands (I can hear the cheers!).  They did a fantastic job ....  BUT....
We need more volunteers.  This is a mammoth task and is definitely a case of many hands make light(er) work.  If you are available to help weekdays or weekends, or could rally a group of like-minded people from your fleet to take up the clearing challenge we'd love to hear from you!

If you are chainsaw qualified, we'd be especially pleased to hear from you!

Vacancy - Bar Manager

With Andy Leigh now Rear Commodore Sailing, we are looking for a new Bar Manager.  If you are interested in finding out more about what the role entails, please contact the club office or have a chat with Andy (in the bar!)

Wanted - Boat Bimbler

The club dinghies have been well used this year by a huge range of members and their guests. We are now looking for a volunteer to oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the Club Dinghies.  If you are interested in getting involved, please let us know.

Appeal: Missing Rollers

Unfortunately, a set of rollers from the club trailer has been misplaced.  If you have seen them, please could you let the Bosun or the club office know as soon as possible.

Giving his Reindeers the night off, a very special visitor arrived in style at the club on Saturday 5th December, much to the delight of the 50 children and adults attending the recent Kids Christmas Party.
A wonderful afternoon of fun, games and party food were enjoyed by all.  Hopefully the start of many more fantastic social events!

If there's any social events you'd like to see at the club, please contact Paul Checksfield, Social Secretary

2015 Sailability Dinner

Just under 50 guests attended the 2015 Sailability Dinner on 7th November.  It was the biggest attendance in recent years with a wonderful mix of sailors, volunteers, supporters and partners
The clubroom looked wonderful set up for a formal dinner, luckily the new curtains had arrived just in time!  The mood of the evening was very relaxed and jovial.  A lovely three course dinner was followed by a very successful raffle, prize giving and speeches including formal thanks to Wexham Park Golf Club for their recent very generous donation.

Huge thanks to Heike for all the organisation and the wonderful flower arrangements.

If you've visited the club over the last couple of weeks you may have noticed that there is a new coffee machine near the lift.

Installed to provide hot drinks when the galley is closed, the Flavia machine offers a range of coffees, teas and hot chocolate.
Standard (1 pack) drinks are £1, Flavia-Creations (2 pack drinks) are £1.20

If you notice that supplies are running low or you have any problems/feedback please let the office know.

Gate Reminder

Members are reminded that the Gate Code is no longer the same as the door code.

If you need access to the club site when the Office and School are closed, but do not know the gate code, please contact the office.
The padlocks on the gates are both push close - they do not need to be unscrambled to be locked. If unlocking the gates, we would recommend opening and then scrambling the padlock numbers straight away. Please leave the padlock open (but scrambled) so whoever is locking up or last to leave can just snap it closed.

If you are last to leave, please remember to lock the gates behind you.

We have recently been made aware that Sailing, along with a few other Olympic sports, has been removed from the syllabus for both A level and GCSE PE. This could affect many young sailors chance to study this subject next year.  If you would like to read more about this decision and join a petition to allow all Olympic sports to be part of curriculum at GCSE and A Level Sport please use the following link:

Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and Best Wishes for the New Year
