Quilt close up, work by Kristie LandryI have always loved making things, all mediums, all techniques. Trying new ideas and finding new materials. Through that variety sewing seems to be the constant I return to. My inspiration has always been my family & friends. Most of my work was created for a specific person. When I am making a piece I do consider what they might like & hope they enjoy the piece, but also when I make the work I think about them, our memories, our connection.

Quilt by Kristie LandryJust as much as trying something new drives my work, using reclaimed materials has been there from day one. My doll dream house was made from any cardboard box I could find, furnished with thimble tables & chairs and decorated with wallpaper and fabric remnants. Now when I begin a piece the process starts with questions like ‘what can I find?’ ‘How can I use that?’ and ‘What will make this work?’ This takes me in directions I didn’t even envision. It is the flow of the materials combines with the inspiration I take from the intended recipient that drives my work.

The work featured in our reCreate Gallery this June is a collection of home decor projects Kristie Landry made using reclaimed materials found at The Resource Exchange and other reused materials. Many of the pieces are samples from projects the artist made to give as gifts to close friends and relatives. See more of Kristie's work here!

with reCreate Featured Artist Kristie Landry
Saturday, June 11th 3-5pm

Sewing Project examples by Kristie LandryreCreate Featured Artist Kristie Landry will teach participants how to put those left over pieces of fabric to use. Combine textures, colors, patterns along with ribbons & trims to make useful objects. Even those beautiful fabric selvages edges can be part of the fun. Workshop attendees will sew from a choice of items, tissue holder, mobile device sleeve, pot holder, or a small shoulder bag. Each participant will leave with one finished piece. Basic sewing skills would be preferred, but not required.

Workshop Cost:
$5 per person
RSVP: Space is limited so please call 267.997.0060

Participants will be able to choose and purchase the fabrics to complete their projects, including samples, $1/lb pieces, and yardage from our inventory of low cost and reclaimed making materials! You can also bring any materials of your own to incorporate into your piece. The Resource Exchange will provide thread, sewing needles, scissors, basic crafting supplies, and a few sewing machines to be shared by workshop participants.
