 Plastic Pranks - digital collage
In my practice I enjoy usinwork by Em Jenseng found imagery and product photography. Through video and collage my work explores ideas of consumerism and surplus while using humor to evoke a critique on the necessity of the products and the product photography I am appropriating.  I find the imagery I use on the Internet from websites such as Amazon and re-use it to make work that studies the American cultural habits of mindless consumption.

My digital collages come from series of works that not only comments on ideas of consumerism but also compares characteristics of the online web to human observance. The digital world exists simultaneously with the physical. I am interested in contrasting ideas of effortless spending and consumption with the subtle personal attachments and narratives we place on these purchased objects. My videos and my digital collages embrace the format of the computer screen and aim to highlight the physiological and technological stream of consciousness that occurs when browsing the internet.

Meet Em Jensen on Wednesday, August 3rd at her opening reception in our artist's gallery. Invite your friends here!

with Alex Orgera Saturday, August 6th 10am-1pm
The Philly Block Project ipinhole photo of Fishtowns collaborating with South Kensington artists to offer FREE art-making workshops: Art-A-Matic. This month's workshop will be held at The Resource Exchange!

Learn how to make and use your own camera out of reusable objects in this introduction to the art of pinhole photography. With roots earlier than the dawn of photography itself, pinhole photography is still enjoyed by artists for its simplicity of use and the uniquely expressive imagery it creates. Suitable for anyone, regardless of previous photo experience, this workshop will help you optimize your camera construction and learn how to expose unique images on positive photographic paper. Basically any container, with a little bit of matte black spray paint on the inside and black tape to seal up cracks and edges, can become a camera – even a vintage suitcase! We will provide a few empty containers or you can feel free to bring your own (oatmeal containers, thick shoeboxes, coffee cans, and tea tins all work well). Or you can shop for unique containers from the reclaimed inventory at The Resource Exchange!

workshop fee: FREE!
*Space is limited and REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
