NewStart Announcement:

A New Way to Learn!

West Virginia University's Reed College of Media is excited to announce a new way for aspiring media entrepreneurs to learn how to acquire and run their own publication.

Introducing the Media Solutions and Innovation Executive Training Program, which will launch in Fall 2021!

We at NewStart heard from both individuals and media organizations that they would be interested in an online education program like this, and we're happy to be able to offer it starting this fall.

The Executive Training Program builds off of what we have learned in the first year of NewStart’s existence. It is a way for emerging media leaders and community advocates to enhance their entrepreneurial skills in the news industry without seeking a full master’s degree.
Who Should Apply?

Which Program Is Right For You?

This executive program offers many of the same benefits of the full online master’s degree program, including courses in audience development, community journalism, product management and analytics, as well as the ability to meet and learn from numerous media and business leaders -- all with a goal of transforming the local news landscape across the country. If you are a journalist who wants to own your own publication and transform it into an audience-first and digital-first organization that will be sustainable well into the future, the NewStart master’s degree in Media Solutions and Innovation or the Executive Training Program would be beneficial. The Executive Training Program, in particular, would be a great option for those who have already earned a master’s degree but would like to continue their academic endeavors.

If you are part of a media organization that wants to groom an emerging newsroom leader, our Executive Training Program may be a great option to not just train an employee, but also help your company’s bottom line.

For more information on both programs, visit our website or contact program director Jim Iovino at jim.iovino@mail.wvu.edu. Also, make sure you are subscribed to The NewStart Alliance newsletter for details on upcoming info sessions to help you decide what option is right for you.
