Unanswered questions, uncertain future

Despite significant press coverage, the size and scope of the projected job losses among CSIRO term and casual employees - and why the hiring freeze was instituted - remains unclear. The Staff Association is seeking answers. Read our latest correspondence to Chief Executive Megan Clark here.

In the news, for all the wrong reasons

The media reporting of the recruitment freeze did little to clarify the decision itself. A case of rubbery figures - with disputed numbers of the potential jobs on the line - was followed by a round of the blame game, with conflicting statements from the Federal Government and CSIRO management adding to the confusion. Full coverage here.

Getting the message to Canberra

This week marks the opening of the 44th Federal Parliament. Parliamentarians - and a new Government - will begin to grapple with the big issues, including the future of CSIRO and the challenges facing Australian science. The Staff Association has written to the Government, Opposition, minor parties and key independents voicing our concern at the latest CSIRO job cuts. More here.

Take the survey

Standing up for jobs, pay and conditions is the core work of the Staff Association - but we rely on the involvement and participation of our members to make a real difference. Play your part by completing our bargaining survey - the results will form the basis of the union's negotiating position. More here.

More on the Matrix

The Staff Association remains concerned about the level of staff consultation being employed as part of the Organising Arrangements Review. We believe management needs to do more to engage and consult staff in reviewing - and possibly replacing - the Matrix. Read more here.

Save the date

Get your diary out. The Staff Association's Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday 12 December at CSIRO Riverside Park, North Ryde. The AGM is a crucial part of our accountability to members, enabling important financial and operational oversight of the union's activities. Meeting notice here
