The Spring 2012 semester has started with a flurry of activities, from Chinese New Year and Zen poetry to today's symposium with a scholar visiting from India and the Research Award deadline. And, that is just the beginning. Study Abroad scholarship deadlines come soon, Bollywood films return in February, a Korean scholar visits in March, and the director of a documentary featuring Asian-Americans in the South will be here in April. Today's Event and Deadline
Dr. Saleem Kidwai from Jawaharlel Nehru University in New Delhi, India, is visiting UA this week. In addition to participating in some classes, he is the featured speaker in the India-US in 2012 Symposium in the Ferguson Center's Forum Room from 1-4 pm today.
The deadline to submit your paper or project for the Asian Studies Reseach Award is today (30 January). Further information is available online.

Other events coming up
Kamicon: Organizers expect a great turnout this coming weekend at the Ferg for perhaps the best Kamicon yet. Remembe, paid registration is required this year.
Korean scholar: Dr. Laurel Kendall will visit UA in March, with a lunch event and public lecture on Korean shamanism on Wednesday afternoon, 28 March. Look for more details soon.
Asian-American documentary: A special screening of "A VIllage Called Versailles" by Leo Chiang will be on April 10, followed by a discussion with the director. The film highlights the struggles of a Vietnamese-American community in New Orleans.
