Spring 2017 Courses
Don't miss out on the fascinating courses that still have seats available for Spring 2017. Are you interested in 20th century revolutions in China (HY300.034), contemporary Hindu-Muslim conflict and cooperation in India (REL 321), or any of the languages from Asia? These are a few of the topics and courses for Spring 2017 that contribute to an Asian Studies minor. If you have not already added an Asian Studies course to your schedule for Spring 2017, you should take a look at the Spring 2017 list of courses.

News from Asia

From a currency crisis in India to various geopolitical tensions across Asia, from the celebration of festivals to increasing ties between nations in Asia and other parts of the world, lots has happened in the world beyond the US election that has dominated US media. Keep up with the events around the world through a variety of media, including posts on the Asian Studies Twitter account (@AsianStudiesUA).

Dec 10 Deadline for 2017 Research Award
As you write final papers in your classes, keep in mind that you can submit research or a creative project related to Asia for the 2017 Asian Studies Research Award. The recipient of the award will receive a small scholarship, along with the recognition.

The award is given to the UA undergraduate whose submission is selected by a faculty committee. Submit the paper or project by December 10, 2016, to asianstudies@as.ua.edu. All submissions must include a cover page with name, CWID, email address, and a 3-4 sentence summary of the paper or project. The Research Award and the Asian Studies Outstanding Student Award (restricted to minors in Asian Studies) will both be presented in an event around Honors Week in April.
