Asian Studies Opportunities

Going to Asia? We have scholarship information for you, some with deadlines approaching. Love Asian films? We have Bollywood and other film series coming up. Interested in Asian-American experiences? Attend a documentary on Vietnamese in New Orleans. Want to learn more about Asia? Become an Asian Studies minor.

Scholarship Opportunities

Want to study abroad in Asia. Check out these important opportunities. The Ronald Robel Study Abroad Scholarship prioritizes students traveling to Asia. The application, available here, is due March 1. Full time UA students wanting to study Japanese language in Japan can also apply for the Miyagawa Scholarship. The Miyagawa deadline is also March 1.

Two external scholarship sources for studying in Japan are the Bridging Project through the American Association of Teachers of Japanese website (deadline April 6) and the MEXT Japanese Studies Student Scholarship (deadline NEXT MONDAY, 27 February).


 

Study in Asia this summer

We have a variety of programs headed to Asia this summer with UA instructors. Check out each program, whose deadline for application is March 1. If you want these courses to count towards an Asian Studies minor, talk with Steven Ramey about how things can count. You can also plan a semester in Asia through an exchange program in several countries. Capstone International can provide more details.

Riverside Bollywood Films continue next week

Two films remain in the Legends of Bollywood Riverside Film Festival. Don't miss these last two chances.

All films start at 8pm at Riverside Community Center Media Room, UA Campus, with free Indian food.

In March and April we will have a special Riverside Film Festival featuring films from Southeast Asia. Look for details in the next newsletter.


Other events coming up 


Korean scholar: Dr. Laurel Kendall will visit UA in March, with a lunch event and public lecture on Korean shamanism on Wednesday afternoon, 28 March. Look for more details soon.

Asian-American documentary: A special screening of "A VIllage Called Versailles" by Leo Chiang will be on April 10, followed by a discussion with the director. The film highlights the struggles of a Vietnamese-American community in New Orleans.
