TEC Quality gains prestigious UKAS accreditation

TEC Quality are pleased to announce that they have been granted accreditation by UKAS to ISO/IEC 17065:2012 Product Certification of Technology Enabled Care Services.  This prestigious accreditation embeds impartiality in to the heart of the Quality Standards Framework and marks the culmination of many months hard work by the TEC Quality team.

The UKAS accreditation will form the backbone of QSF going forward. Offering both a unique approach to quality assurance in the TEC sector that is driven by objectivity and underpinned by mandatory validation on an annual basis.
The award from UKAS will allow TEC Quality to build stronger partnerships with regulators, sector stakeholders and policy makers. As QSF audits are witnessed and reviewed as part of the accreditation and renewal process to ensure impartiality and objectivity then the scheme can be endorsed with greater confidence. This is already evidenced by QSF endorsement by the National Fire Chiefs Council, Association of Ambulance Chief Executives and more recently the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Scotland’s Care Inspectorate.

Calling all ARCs

BT, Virgin Media and other telecoms providers are reaching out again to request that telecare services provide information to help to manage the migration to digital networks, namely:
  • The inbound dialling-in numbers they use
  • The number of connected service users
  • The communications provider contracted by the service
We should emphasise two issues here:
  • They do not want your service users phone numbers, only the phone numbers that alarm devices dial into
  • This information will not be used for any other purpose and would be protected
The importance of providing this information can’t be stressed enough. The TSA fully supports the work that telecoms providers are doing in flagging special service numbers that are used by vulnerable people, to ensure that nobody is put at risk during the transition.

If you are happy to provide the information requested, or if you have any queries on these issues please contact TSA by email to
New TSA website

We’re very excited about the impending launch of our brand new website. Whilst still in development the site will shortly be made available to enable members to update personal and organisational information before the ‘go-live’.

Please keep a look out in you inbox over the next few weeks for the set up link.

Primary Contacts for each member will be able to update details about their organisation which will link directly to our CRM system. Information such as services offered and needs addressed as well as contact details, address, phone number, web link, profile logo and company description will all be editable and will be used in a new Support at Home search engine and online membership directory.

Users will be able to create their own account, unlike our previous site where accounts were company based and login details had to be shared.

There will be a dedicated TSA members' portal, which over time will be populated with exclusive content and links to member-only resources such as our eLearning core competency tool.

The site’s responsive design will enable users to view the content on desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
TSA sign MoU with Scotland's Care Inspectorate

The TSA and TEC Quality have signed a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding to underpin collaboration with the Care Inspectorate in Scotland.

The MoU covers how the TSA will work with the Care Inspectorate in knowledge transfer, skills training and best practice. TEC Quality will work alongside both parties in the course of auditing activities to highlight any issues relating to the quality of social services, risks to service users or other matters relating to the Care Inspectorate’s remit.

TSA and National Trading Standards targeting scammers
As mentioned in last month’s eLink we’ve been working with National Trading Standards to seek support with the investigation of scams and cold calling relating to telecare.

We have been contacted recently by members and from the general public regarding cold calls for supply and installation of monitoring equipment, and some of the costs associated with this service at an extortionate rate. We know that some TSA members have been informed that their customers have been contacted by a supposed ‘new provider’ and that they need to give over their bank account details to enable the continuation of the service.

We are doing a piece of work to support and protect our members and of course to ensure the vulnerable people who are being targeted are also protected.  We are working with the National trading standards to look in to this.

We need your help and support.

If you have any details or records regarding anything along these lines, would you kindly share the details with us, to enable us to collate this information and pass this on to the Scams Team.

What need as much information as possible, such as:
  • Date of incident
  • Who received the call – service users details (this will not be passed on to anyone other than trading standards and will be marked as confidential
  • District they live
  • Name of company making the call (we are aware that some callers are using genuine company names as part of their subterfuge)
  • What equipment or service they were offered
  • What costs the service users were quoted or paid
  • Any other information you feel will be helpful
  • State if you are happy for the NTS to contact you regarding this
Please send the information to
Thanks very much for your help and support
