Message From the President

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to issue #19 of KICconnect.

Greetings to you all on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha al Mubarak, blessings and best wishes.

I want this message to be different and for that I chose to share with you some useful quotations prepared by Lydea Sweatt. The statements are about successful people and their characteristics. Lydea states that to be successful, you have to use each day as an opportunity to improve, to be better, to get a little bit closer to your goals.

Below are ten quotations I have chosen for you:

  1. Push yourself, because no one else is going to do it for you.
  2. Success doesn’t just find you. You have to go out and get it.
  3. The harder you work for something, the greater you’ll feel when you achieve it.
  4. Don’t stop when you’re tired. Stop when you’re done.
  5. Wake up with determination. Go to bed with satisfaction
  6. Do something today that your future self will thank you for.
  7. Little things make big days
  8. Sometimes we’re tested not to show our weaknesses, but to discover our strengths.
  9. Sometimes later becomes never. Do it now.
  10. Great things never come from comfort zones.

Thank you and Stay Safe.

Al-Khwarizmi: Geography

Al-Khwarizmi influenced medieval geography.

He refined Ptolemy’s research in geography, using his findings that are entitled as Surat al-Ard (The Shape of the Earth). Although the maps were not preserved, the evidence exists in a manuscript.

According to FamousScientists.org “He supervised the work of 70 geographers to create a map of the then “known world”. When his work became known in Europe through Latin translations, his influence made a permanent mark on the development of science in the West”.

Use symmetry in your digital photography to achieve an immediate improvement.

Split the frame in two, and ensure that one half mirrors the other in terms of composition. There two kinds of symmetry, vertical and horizontal. Vertical Line of Symmetry (VLS), as in the image above splits the frame vertically in half. Horizontal Line of Symmetry (HLS): splits the frame horizontally and it is best used when incorporating landscape reflections.
