I have had to cancel the Stamford Music Competition at Stamford All Saints this year, which was due to take place in June. It was the restrictions of Covid-19 that done for it, and they have done for all live music. I tried to find an online solution, and to interest the local radio station in publicising it, but to no avail.
I would have written sooner, but like many of my colleagues, I have been setting up lessons online, and finding software solutions to setting and receiving homework, and getting to grips with Zoom. It was a brave new world for me, and I found there was far more involved than simply setting my phone on the end of the piano and pressing a button, if one was to do it properly. I am pleased to say that online lessons are working well for me, and I hope providing an enjoyable and education experience for the student. I have written about it on my blog.
I am sure that everyone is taking full advantage of online resources that provide us with a lifeline - Helen and I have been enjoying a free month's subscription to the Berliner Philharmoniker Digital Concert Hall. Recommended.
This year is the Beethoven Anniversary. If you haven't already seen it, I recommend this version of the Fifth:
Thank you for your support of the competition in the past, and I hope to see you in 2021.
With best wishes
