On Friday 16th June at 2:30pm, Roger Stimson & Fergus Black present a programme of chamber music called “First Violins”: Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven’s first violin sonatas. The programme will last about 45 minutes.

Mozart’s “Wunderkind” sonata was written when he was between 6 and 8 years of age. The Beethoven by contrast is a mature work. The Haydn features a virtuoso finale - his famous "Gypsy Rondo". Such variety within three first sonatas.

Don’t forget that Friday is Market Day, and the town is likely to be busy - entry is £5 on the door.

Scotgate Car Park is nearest:

On Sunday 18th June at 3.00pm, “The Recorder Consort with wider horizons”, Freshe Ayre, gives a concert or medieval to modern music. Several pieces are inspired by bird song.

As well as 6 sizes of recorders, the group will feature a consort of crumhorns (curved reed instruments beloved of Henry VIII), timbrel, nakers, tabor, keyboard (organ, harpsichord) and early stringed instruments such as rebec, psaltery and symphony. They are joined by the early music soprano, Sam Graper.

All proceeds towards All Saints’ Church Music Fund. Tickets: Adult £6 Child £4 including light refreshments. From All Saints’ Vicarage 01780 756942, or at the door.
