HEALTHY MIND AND BODY
Healing and Repair after indulging during the holidays
Celebrating the holidays can be a joyous time, filled with family, friends, and for most of us, food! Many of our holiday traditions are centered around big meals, sugary drinks, and lax routines. The weeks after holiday time can result in feelings of sluggishness, difficulty sleeping, and weight gain. For those of you that stayed disciplined during this holiday season, go you! It takes willpower with all the sweet treats that grace the many tables this time of year. For those of us who were less apt to say no to that second slice of pie, such as myself, here are some tips to getting back on track and reducing those feelings of after-holiday overindulgence!
- Get 8 hours of sleep! Get your body back into a good sleep routine to make up for possible lack of during this busy time.
- Increase fluid intake to reduce the effects salty foods can do to your body. Being properly hydrated can increase digestion and aid in detoxification.
- Eat a diet rich in whole foods such as vegetables, fruits, and grains. Grains such as Quinoa are complete proteins.
- Get moving! The best thing you can do to jump start a healthy new year after holiday binging is to get your body moving – whether that means walking the dogs in the morning or evening, going for a hike, taking the stairs in lieu of the elevator, or joining something new such as a class or gym!
