The Real Baby Milk team would like to thank everyone that supported and attended the Infant Feeding Conference, on Saturday 25th September. Over 60 peer supporters and health care professionals came together to listen and talk about supporting breastfeeding within Cornwall!
Brian O’Neill, Consultant in Public Health for children, opened the conference by sharing his experience of supporting a partner to breastfeed from a Father’s perspective. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Real Baby Milk, so special guest Rev. Arwen Folkes spoke about the humble beginnings and growth of Real Baby Milk. Naomi Stadlen, Author of What Mothers Do and How Mothers Love, ended the speeches by leading an interactive session listening to audience members experiences of being needed as a mother. Delegates then dispersed into 4 workshops on Fundraising and Sustaining Peer Support Groups, Maximising Breastmilk, Milk sharing and Introducing Solid Foods.
During the course of the day there was plenty of opportunities over tea and cake, to network between different peer support groups and health care professionals. The conference was concluded with a question and answer session, led by Rev. Arwen Folkes and a panel of health care professionals, answering the audience’s questions on the ongoing relationship building between volunteers & healthcare professionals and the future of breastfeeding support in Cornwall.
