Together in Motion

Hello <<First Name>>

As we enter the depths of the darker months, I'm reminded of how powerful connection and togetherness are, especially in these challenging times.

Togetherness is experienced through our whole selves - our bodies, minds, emotions and souls. Can you think of a time when you experienced togetherness? What was it like?

This is the heartbeat of Curious Motion and whether you've just found us, or have been with us for a while, you're always welcome - do have a read below to find out what you can get involved in. I encourage you to connect in general too, even if it's just replying to this email to say hello.

Much love, Sam x

Rhythm & Brews is BACK!

We are delighted to announce that thanks to support from Calderdale Council and Elland Ward Forum, Rhythm & Brews, our lunchtime adult movement class, will be return in January and run throughout 2023.

We've made a few changes to help make the programme more sustainable. Movement will be the primary focus - each session our lovely Matt will lead you through a range of accessible movement activities with a deep focus on releasing tension, connecting with others, and learning more about yourself. Live music is still something we very much value, and we hope to be able to include this occasionally too.

Sessions will now run monthly on the second Friday of each month, from January, and they'll last a full hour. There will of course be the option to enjoy refreshments together after each session too.

January's session is now OPEN FOR BOOKING...

Next year will see the re-launch of our podcast - we're developing it to better support the wellbeing of local people, particularly in Elland and the lower valley, but across Calderdale and beyond too!

Introducing our new blog...

Written by Isla, one of our wonderful dance artists, Questions in Motion is a space to let curiosity run free. Each month Isla will explore one question relating to Curious Motion’s work to see what more we can learn and discover.

The first post coincided with Black History Month so Isla has taken the opportunity to explore the important and long lasting impact that the Black community have had, and continue to have, on dance and the arts in general.

To do this, she examines the life of Ignatius Sancho, a fascinating individual with huge influence on 18th century music and dance...

Who was Ignatius Sancho?

Thank you!

We're delighted to have been shortlisted for a Community Spirit Award, in the Arts & Culture category, for the second year running!

A huge thank you to everyone who nominated us, and to the community of Elland and the lower valley who make us who we are. We'll find out if we've won at the awards evening on Thursday 24th November - keep everything crossed!

Sam recommends...

Here's some local support to help foster togetherness - these are Calderdale based but similar support is available across the country:
  • Calderdale Libraries are now warm spaces - pop along to any library to get out of the cold and enjoy a brew.
  • 'As We Are' with Halifax Unity - for anyone who is trans or gender nonconforming and their allies (partners/ parents/ friends). Meeting on Weds 23rd November, 7pm at Orange Box in Halifax. Get in touch with them to secure a place: www.halifaxunity.org
  • Money and wellbeing support across Calderdale - there's lots of information for support across money, housing, family, health, employment and more HERE.
With love, strength, and solidarity x
