Celebrate Hercules Clay

A Newark cloth merchant and former Mayor of the town during the Civil War He suffered from a persistent dream during the siege that his house was on fire.  After evacuating his family because of the intense clarity of the dream, a mortar shell fired from Beacon Hill fell on the house and set it alight.

However his family were saved. In grateful thanks he left a sum of money for an annual service to be preached and to distribute alms to the poor.
In March each year a service is held in Newark Parish Church in recognition of his legacy.

Local businesses are invited to attend and as part of this there is an opportunity to “display your wares” in the Church in the week leading up to the service.
Newark Business Club will be taking an active part in the service. Our Mission Statement will be presented to be “blessed” by the Rector Stephen Morris

It is one of the oldest services of its kind in the UK.
All Business Club Members are invited and if you would like to get involved and put up your banner or similar in the Church, please get in contact by replying to this e-mail and we will send full details

You will also be most welcome at both the Church service and the “reception” at the Newark Town Hall afterwards

GROWING A BUSINESS
Matthew Tucker, Managing Director of award winning engineering consultants Morgan Tucker, gave us a potted history of the business and its phenomenal growth .

He put it down to a number of key factors, people, clients and relationships between the two,  robust financial models ,  commercial accumen, openess and the sharing of key information across the business.  He also stressed the importance of distingushing the difference between hours charged and value added.

Matthew clearly  has a very successful business model and it is great for Newark to have them based here - they set a good example of what can be achieved both on the national and international stage.
