I can't believe 2014 is now behind us. It was an incredible year with many wonderful highlights. I hope you had a great time celebrating Christmas with family and friends! Katie and I have really enjoyed spending time with many of you this holiday season.
Some of our most recent ministry highlights were:
-Hosting our FCA Affiliate from Bangladesh for 10 days
-Horace Grant Speaking at Mission Prep
-FCA & AIA meeting at Cal Poly with new college athletes
-Visiting with supporters
-Spending time with Family for Thanksgiving and Christmas
-Getting to show Katie Hume Lake for the first time at our Western Region Director's meetings
Our Righetti student leaders met to train and plan for their up coming huddle meetings.
Horace Grant spoke to about 150 students at our Mission Prep FCA Huddle. Ryan and the student leaders have done a great job leading this huddle on a weekly basis.
St. Joe's continues to have a great group of students and leaders and our new staff member, Olivia, got to help speak to there group.
Hosting our Affiliate from Bangladesh
In my part time role with FCA International ministry I get to work with sports ministry leaders from around the world and help them with the process of partnering with FCA and leading sports ministry in their country. When we are able to we get to host these leaders for training here in the US and recently had our affiliate from Bangladesh stay with us for ten days. He and I got to speak at all three services for Rock Harbor Christian Fellowship about what God is doing through FCA locally and around the world.
Commissioning Service for FCA Bangladesh Affiliate
Katie and I got to take him to Hume Lake with us for our Western Region Directors meetings which was a lot of fun and a great bonding time. He got to meet our staff, share about what God is doing in his country and learn more about FCA ministry.
When back in town I had him to speak to our Cabrillo High School FCA Huddle. The students enjoyed hearing his testimony and about the challenges of doing sports ministry in a closed country that is less than 1% Christian.
He got to experience an American Football Game for the first time and our board member, Dana, even gave him a sideline pass for Cal Poly's game against UC Davis!
Surfing in Pismo Beach
One of the highlights of his trip was going to "Little Bangladesh" in Los Angeles. (If you would like to hear more about his ministry please let me know and I will email it to you.)
Cal Poly FCA & AIA
FCA & AIA's first joint meeting at Cal Poly!
Kenneth Lombard, a former UCLA football player, came to speak to the students about integrity and did a great job!
We also had a white elephant gift exchange and ugly sweater Christmas party with the athletes which was a blast.
Young Professionals Ministry
In the YP ministry at our church we have been doing a series on secular and religious worldviews and recently I have been teaching on Islam. Through this I got back intouch with one of my old friends from college who is now the President of the Islamic Society in San Luis Obispo. We got to have a three hour conversation about Christianity and Islam and she even came as a guest to participate in an interfaith dialogue with me for our group.
Katie got to experience her first Llamas Thanksgiving! It was nice to spend time with family, eat good food, and play fun games.
This year has been a lot of firsts. We bought our first Grand Fur Christmas tree, and spent our first Christmas with my parents as a married couple. Johnny (Katie's brother) even had a surprise layover in LAX and was able to join us for the Christmas celebrations!
In all it was a great month and a truly wonderful year and we are so thankful for all the Lord is doing in our life and marriage.
Thank you for your prayers and friendship.
Happy New Year!
Luke & Katie Llamas
