Mustang 50th Anniversary | 1985 Ferrari Mondial | The Great Race
May 2014 - Volume 2 Issue 4

Mustang 50th Anniversary

This year the Ford Mustang turned 50 years old and it was by far, the biggest birthday celebration in automotive history!  When Ford revealed the Mustang to the world, it was destined to be a hit. However, Ford did not know that its creation would become a dominant controlling force in the automotive industry, a “figure” in American and international pop-culture, and a beloved car for generations to make memories with.
There were opening ceremonies featuring guest speakers such as Bill Ford, hot laps around the track in your own Mustang, drag races, cruise-ins, ride-and-drive programs, vendors, food, and even an unveiling of the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang!

Even if your blood doesn't run blue like the Ford Oval, you have to admit this was truly the automotive event of a lifetime.  Only the Ford Mustang could bring together over 100,000 people from across the United States and unite generations new and old.  Besides, what other car can offer you the same big ear-to-ear smile like a 1964 convertible or a 2014 Shelby GT500?

Did you know the Great Race is coming?

Next month between June 21 and June 29, vintage cars will be seen all along the Eastern Seaboard!  Beginning in Ogunquit, Maine this 2,100 mile journey finishes in The Villages, Florida. Although its a speed-controlled event, The Great Race requires precision driving and expert navigational skills. Antique, vintage, and collector cars alike will compete in this endurance and road rally event on public highways. It is not a test of top speed; it is a test of a driver and navigator team’s ability to follow precise course instructions and the team's ability to endure a cross-country trip. Each day the driver and navigator team receive a set of course instructions that indicate every turn, speed change, stop, and start that the team must make throughout the day. Along the course route there will be 4 to 7 checkpoints which record the exact time that the team passes that point. The objective is to arrive at each checkpoint at the correct time, not the fastest.  The Race is open to pre-1972 Cars and bonus points are given based on the cars' age.
