A life on the margins? Living and making a living in an African slum
The slum remains politicised and socially marginalised despite being weaved into the spatial and economic fabric of the city. Cecilia Fåhraeus, PhD and lecturer at the Department of Human Geography at Uppsala University, discusses the geographies of slum dwellers’ livelihood activities using research conducted in Lusaka, Zambia, illustrating the initiative of these communities despite the hard realities they are faced with.

By connecting researchers, policymakers, local communities and developers, the Conexus project is co-creating and evidencing solutions that are inspired and supported by nature. SLU is coordinating and running living labs in seven countries across Europe and Latin America with the purpose of building partnerships with local communities for the learning and sharing of Nature-based solutions. Nudging and participation are two popular strategies for changing people’s everyday practices. Researchers in environmental communication at the Department of Urban and Rural Development have analysed the two strategies and advocate a combination of the two.

Urban greenery is the common denominator for SOL's new professor

The motivation from IVA (Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences) reads as follows: "John and Margaretha Aspegren's scholarship 2021 of SEK 100,000 is awarded to Josefin Wangel for her future studies in urban sustainability, where she boldly combines science, technology, design and the humanities."
