A Message from the Principal
KINDNESS MATTERS Dear Gator Families, As 2017 is upon us, I wish peace and joy in the hearts and homes of every Grand View family. As we restart our minds this year (and, in particular, this week), we pause to remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was such a powerful voice for compassion. He was a bold example of loving kindness in action. To him, unconditional love was not passive acceptance, but a moral imperative to act -- to speak out and stand up for those without a voice. MLK's message of tolerance centered around the idea of nonviolence. "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." I happened to be in a first grade classroom earlier this week as a young girl shared with her class that Martin Luther King fought only with his words and his heart. We hope that all our students will carry his message into the world every day by cultivating compassion through mindfulness, empathy, and kind actions toward others. Take a moment to have a family conversation about MLK and the importance of compassion. At GV, we will spend the next eight weeks exploring and practicing why and how Kindness Matters in our world, perhaps now more than ever. Thank you for your support and for your generous hearts. Gratefully, Mrs. Doyle.
