Earthquake Drill 10/24
Dear Grand View Parents,
Throughout the remaining weeks of October, our community will participate in activities that focus on safety and community building. On Thursday, 10/24, we will experience a ShakeOut drill. Students and staff will be directed to “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” for a few minutes then we will evacuate safely and swiftly to the Grand View upper playground. We will then put in place our practices for ensuring that all staff and students have been accounted for in case of a real emergency.
On or around 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, 10/24,
you will receive a phone call from our School Messenger communication system. School Messenger is our primary emergency notification system; please check your phone to verify that you received a test call from Grand View School. If you do not receive a call, please email Kathy Poje at firstname.lastname@example.org
. Not sure if your wireless numbers are registered to receive text messages from School Messenger? Click here and follow the simple directions
In order to protect students
, in case of an actual emergency students will be released only to the parents and/or other adults listed on student’s emergency card. Please ensure that this card has updated and accurate information. It is a good idea to have several trusted adults listed on the card, including one or two who live within walking distance of school. You should assume that in an actual emergency telephone communication may not be possible, and you should discuss your family meeting place and reunification plans in advance with anyone listed on the student’s emergency card.
In the event of an actual emergency
any approved emergency contact person should do their best to bring identification and should report to the upper gate (the southwest corner of the playground) to request the student and sign them out. This procedure is designed for your child’s protection and for your peace of mind.
Prior to the drill
, please discuss your family’s home preparedness plan with your student(s). The American Red Cross has outstanding materials. You may obtain Red Cross materials from their website
. The Great California ShakeOut website
has valuable information on emergency preparedness, and there are resources to be discovered on the internet in many languages.
