From the Health Office
KEEP SICK KIDS HOME
For your child's well being and to protect the health of classmates and school staff, please keep your child home when he or she is sick. School policy offers concrete guidelines for determining when a child is too sick to come to school:
- Fever (measured orally at 100.4 or above)
- Severe cold symptoms (constant cough, sneezing, or nasal drainage)
- Severe flu symptoms (fever accompanied by body aches and headache)
Students may return to school once they have been symptom free for a minimum of 24 hours. If your child has had the flu, or a flu-like illness, or has experienced signs of a fever (warm to the touch, flushed, chills, sweating), keep your child home for at least 24 hours after these symptoms have abated without the use of fever-reducing medications containing ibuprofen or acetaminophen. If your child has seen a doctor, please bring the diagnosis note and/or a note to return to school. Remember to report all absences to the health office by emailing through the Report an Absence
link at gvpta.com or call Paula Sodeika at 310-546-8022 x5463. Thank you for your cooperation.
Cuckoo for Gaga!
WHAT IS GAGA? Gaga
translates from Hebrew as "touch-touch." Gaga is a kinder, gentler version of dodge ball played in an octagonal pit with a soft ball. Gaga keeps a large number of kids running, jumping, and dodging to avoid getting hit by the ball. Three pits on the upper playground and one on the B-level playground were funded by the Jog-a-thon, thanks to our amazing kids and generous families.
ENJOY GAGA SAFELY The rules of Gaga as taught by Miss Wood
during P.E. class must be observed at all times, even when school is not in session. Always use a soft ball, such as the type purchased inexpensively from the supermarket or toy store. Never use a firm ball, such as a basketball, or soccer ball.
