Unique Volunteer Opportunities

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL Are you interested working alongside the principal and teachers to improve student achievement and progress? There are four open seats for parent representatives. There are three meetings per year, with the first one on 11/7 at 3pm in the school library. Click to learn more and to indicate interest. Applications are due in the front office by 10/27. Questions? CHARACTER AND WELLNESS COUNCIL This council will support actions and programs to promote character development and ensure the safety and wellness of children at Grand View. The first meeting will follow the School Site Council meeting on 11/7 at 3:30pm in the school library. For more info and to indicate interest contact Lisa Schlager.

INSPIRATION SPACES Do you have a creative eye for transforming spaces? We are planning to create three new innovative spaces on campus to inspire student creativity and collaboration in the areas of Maker/Engineering, Technology/Robotics, and Visual/Performing Arts. Run Club

NBA VIP GUEST AND PRIZES 10/19 Come along and meet our VIP guest on Wednesday - GV Dad and NBA Clippers Assistant Coach Brendan O'Connor! Over 200 Gators have run so far, with special congratulations to Ms. Glassman's class with the highest participation rate at 52%. We still have Dri-fit t-shirts available! GrowingGreat Art Contest

FOR MB ELEMENTARY STUDENTS - DEADLINE THIS THURSDAY Submit a colorful picture of a favorite fruit and/or vegetable that you would like to see growing in your school garden. One winner from each elementary school will have their artwork painted on a wall at Manhattan House Restaurant. Details and official entry form. Deadline October 20.
 

National PTA Art Contest

PTA REFLECTIONS CONTEST Does your child like to dance, produce films, write poetry or stories, compose songs, take photos, or create visual art? This year's National PTA Reflections theme is "What Is Your Story?" Have your child submit his or her artwork/thumb drive and registration form in the PTA room by 11/4/16. Details at gvpta.com.
 

Think RAC for Halloween

RENT-A-COSTUME The RAC is open every Wednesday from 1:15-2:30pm and is located behind the GV Performing Arts Center on Bell Avenue. A complete costume rents for only $5 plus a $10 deposit, and we have a large supply of adult options, perfect for the Parent Party coming 10/29! Questions? Measures C & EE

DOOR-TO-DOOR NEIGHBORHOOD WALK 10/22 9AM-1PM Campaign volunteers will talk one-on-one with residents about the bonds this Saturday. 55% of the vote is needed for Measures C & EE to pass, making parent and teacher involvement critical. At least ten volunteers from each school are needed to inform neighbors. Sign up here. Timing of the neighborhood walk not good for you? Contact Jen Fenton to arrange another time.

TOUR THE COSTA GYM There is a dedicated Grand View families tour this Thursday, 10/20, at 9:05am. Your friends and neighbors are welcome to come along. Even if you've been to the gym before, you probably haven't seen all there is to see. Time and again tour participants have exclaimed, "It's worse than I expected!" Meet at the Meadows/Keats gate.
