Message from the Headmaster

I hope by now you have all settled into the new year and the winter term.  With the new year comes a lot of exciting events. As you know every January we celebrate Founders' Day at North Cross School.  This year, we will take this special occasion and turn it into a week of exciting, community-building events. Similar to Homecoming in the fall and the events around Big Flea/Field Day in the spring, we will now have Founders' Week in the winter.  This week will kick-off on January 28 and go through Friday, February 1.  One of the new events for the week is my State of the School address, which I will give on Wednesday, January 30, at 7 p.m. in Fishburn Auditorium.  Similar to the President's State of the Union, I will speak on the  current condition of the school, reflect on the first half of the year, talk about what to expect in the coming months and announce the tuition rates for the 2013-14 academic year.  Childcare will be provided for children ages three and up so I sincerely hope you can all attend.  Some of the more exciting events of the week include the Founders' Day Ceremony where we will announce the winner of the 2013 Morris Award for Excellence in Teaching.  That ceremony will take place on Friday, February 1, at 10 a.m. in the Carter Athletic Center. Also in the CAC that night the Parents' Association will host their annual Spaghetti Supper beginning at 5:30 p.m.  There will be three home basketball games that night so this is a great opportunity to come have a good meal, cheer on the Raiders and catch up with friends, all while supporting the School.  As an added bonus, there will also be a Silent Auction Preview and you will have the opportunity to place a bid on many of the items that will be in the silent auction at the Gala on February 9 - some of these items even have a "BUY NOW" option!  We will be sending out more information on these events next week.  We hope to see you there.

Mark your Calendar for February 9

Celebrate Valentine's Day early this year at the 2013 Gala & Auction.  On February 9 spend the evening with that special someone and a group of your party-ready friends enjoying a night of cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, fancy dancing, and friendy competitive shopping at the "Havana Nights" themed event. A lot of folks have been hard at work so you can have a fabulous time as you help support the school.  Every dollar raised goes straight to the school's annual operating revenues, student resources and teacher programs.

What do you need to do right now? Save the date, make your reservations, and put some cash aside to spend on auction items such as student artwork, fabulous vacations, parties for children and adults, teacher excursions, jewelry and much more. All of these items would make great gifts for Valentines Day!

To make reservations, email 2013GALA@northcross.org. Tickets are $100 each and worth every penny!

Winter Book Fair for Ellis Hall

"Explore, Imagine, Create, Connect, Give Back. That's what Barefoot Books is all about. It's exploring other cultures, our planet, ourselves...Most of all, it's about using the power of stories to nourish the creative spark in everyone and strengthen connections with family, the global community, and the earth." At North Cross School, we believe in these things, too. This year, we are partnering with Barefoot Books for our first Barefoot Books Winter Book Fair on Thursday, January 31 and Friday, February 1, in Hancock Library.  Elizabeth (Weaver) Hale is a 1991 graduate of North Cross School and is a Barefoot Books ambassador. We are very excited to be working with her to bring this wonderful selection of books to our school! Please take a look at their website www.barefootbooks.com, where you can find not only the selection of books they offer, but also information about this company's mission and core values, activities and songs that you can download, and literacy information as well. This special Winter Book Fair is being held for our lower school students, but we hope parents with students in middle and upper school will also stop by to take a look!
