Conference Registration Early Bird Deadline April 25th

Register Now - BCCFA Conference and AGM  May 26-28, 2016
The three-day event will take place in the community facilities in Lake Cowichan and will include a bus tour into forest operations in the area. Workshops and sessions covering the technical and policy aspects for community forests will be part of the meeting agenda. The Pacheedaht will be preparing a traditional feast for the annual banquet. On Saturday following the AGM there will be a Negotiation Skills Workshop.The interactive, practice-based workshop will explore some basic attitudes, process and skills related to negotiation and collaborative problem solving. We also have confirmation that Steve Thomson, Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations will be joining us for the banquet.

The Silent Auction will be held at the Friday night banquet. All contributions are gratefully accepted. Funds raised go towards sponsoring students for the 2017 conference.

Special Projects Showcase 
Each community forest is asked to bring to the conference a 5x7 photo of a project recently funded by your organization either in the community or on the CFA land base.  

BCCFA Board Recruitment
 At the AGM scheduled for May 28th there will be 5 directors who have reached the end of their 2 year term. There are 4 directors who are in the middle of their term. The 5 retiring directors have expressed interest in standing for another term. Yet in the interests of an open democratic process, the board encourages other members to consider running for the board. BCCFA Membership Renewal
Invoices for 2016-2017 full memberships will go out by email in the next week. These are based on the new fee formula approved at last year’s AGM. Haida Gwaii Request for Proposals
The Minister of Forests offered the civic communities of Haida Gwaii an 80,000 m3 Community Forest Agreement (CFA) in 2010. The Misty Isles Economic Development Society (MIEDS) is the economic development agency for these communities, and has been pursuing this offer for several years. MIEDS is seeking professional assistance to identify and evaluate options to establish a CFA. Deadline for proposals is May 2, 2016 read more

Ruling on Conflict of Interest and Local Government
Caution is the watchword for many of B.C.’s local politicians in the wake of a B.C. Court of Appeal decision on conflict of interest earlier this year. This is important information for community forests with municipal government shareholders and local politicians on their boards.  read more

2017 SISCO Winter Workshop Date/Location
Where would you like to have SISCO next year (2017)? Kamloops  (The Coast or TRU). Penticton  (The Lakeside) or Kelowna  (The Grand)?  And which month do you prefer: Late January, February, or Early March? Please contact April Anderson with your preferences.

Risk and Recreational Lands Workshop 
May 4th the City of New Westminster is hosting a Risk and Recreational Lands workshop. The session was developed to help departments deal with many concerns raised as a result of several large liability losses coming from trails; waterfronts; BMX areas  and more. Information flyers (including registration forms) can be obtained by contacting dwyseman@rogers.com.
