Justice for the Cheslatta People
Mike Robertson, Senior Policy Advisor, stood in the shade to take in the historic ceremony for the signing of a framework agreement designed to help heal historic wounds and shape a better future between the province of BC and the Cheslatta First Nation. Mike has worked tirelessly to bring negotiations to this stage. 

The local Fall Fair was a perfect venue for Burns Lake Community Forest to talk to locals and share their plans for the future
The mission was community engagement and Burns Lake Community Forest found a way to pull the people in. Over 170 surveys were conducted with more coming in electronically.

Its National Forest Forest Week in Canada September 18-25, 2016
National Forest Week is a time to celebrate Canada’s forests and forest communities. The theme this year is True North, Strong and Green. Many community forests will be taking part in forest education and celebration activities. Please be sure to send us your stories and photos of the events in your community for posting on the BCCFA website and newsletter! 

The Rural Dividend Funding Available
The Rural Dividend program will have a new intake October 3 – 31st, and they have a new Program Guide link to the guide
This program  is an excellent opportunity for community forests to take the lead on partnering in their community  to reinvigorate and diversify their local economies. Categories of fundable activities are broad and include  building new trails, training and education for locally based jobs and business sector development. FPInnovations has stepped up to support community forest s to lead or partner on projects, to source leveraged funding and to assist local implementation. read more from FP Innovations We are working on  a special chance for CFAs to learn more about the program, so stay tuned. Monday September  26, 2016   9:00 am – 12 noon Victoria, BC.  BCCFA Executive Director, Jennifer Gunter and President, Erik Leslie will participate in this session. Link to the agenda for the session
UBCM Exhibitor’s Showcase -  The BCCFA will host a booth at the Showcase. BCCFA members are asked to encourage their elected representatives to stop by the booth.

Summer Student for Community Forests Opportunity!!!!
The UBC Faculty of Forestry has confirmed funding for four undergraduate students to be placed at two community forests for the summer months in 2017 .The purpose of the gift is to support employment opportunities for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Forestry, and to support community forestry. Satnam Manhas with Ecotrust, Susan Mulkey, BCCFA and Frank Varga, General Manager of the Burns Lake Community Forest worked with wind and rain to hold down the booth at the Fall Fair. 

People of all ages were drawn to the Burns lake Community Forest booth by free popcorn and left with lots of information about their local community forest.
