2014 Pre- K Report:
State of Pre- K in the District of Columbia
The Office of the State Superintendent's (OSSE) "2014 Pre-K Report: The State of Pre-K in the District of Columbia" was publicly released on May 14, 2015 and the report is now posted on our website. The report highlights that for the first time, the District used a common tool to measure classroom quality across all three sectors – public schools, public charter schools, and community-based organizations and in all three sectors, there are classrooms that meet or exceed the threshold for pre-K classroom quality as measured by the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) Pre-K™ evaluation tool.
In its annual analysis on the state of the District of Columbia’s pre-K education system, OSSE reveals that the District has seen substantial growth in the area of pre-K education and has been noted for both its investments and achievements in national conversations.
OSSE has partnered with First Book to bring more than 40,000 brand-new FREE books to early learning classrooms and resource centers in the District of Columbia to support educators and program leaders serving children in need. Signing up is free and only takes a few minutes to complete. A total of 2,000 registrations equals 40,000 books for our youth.
OSSE's Office of Grants Management (OGMC) will host its annual Community- Based Organizations- Grants Management Conference on Tuesday, June 16, 2015. The Grants Management Conference offers Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) the opportunity to learn about local grant funding available to assist families and communities with practical resources. Most importantly, this conference will provide CBOs with information on how to best meet the needs of District of Columbia students’ and improve their educational outcomes.
