July 1-30-SCSF Board Elections-
2016-2018 Nominees for the Skating Club of San Francisco’s Board of Directors
Robyn Achilles is a competitive adult figure skater, the parent of two skaters, President of the Tremors Synchronized Skating organization and past team manager for San Francisco Ice Theatre. Representing many interests, Robyn strongly believes in a program that allows skaters to pursue their passion for skating and that supports skaters of various ages, abilities and disciplines (freestyle, ice dance, synchronized, ice theatre). She views skating as a collaborative process among skaters, parents, coaches, teams, and club to create a healthy and respectful skating community for everyone.
Robyn’s daughters, Daphne and Georgia, participated on the San Francisco Ice Theatre team, currently skate with Tremors Synchronized Skating and compete individually. Robyn competed at Adult Nationals in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2014 and 2015, medaling in Technical Free Skate, Artistic, and Solo Ice Dance.
As president of Tremors Synchronized Skating, Robyn helped to create a new vision for the Tremors, revitalizing the organization, and enabling the program to grow, doubling in size for the 2016-2017 season.
Before moving to the Bay Area in 2011, Robyn managed school-based and youth-focused programs for over 10 years at the Department of Public Health in Seattle & King County. Robyn also served on the board of Youth in Focus, a Seattle youth photography organization. Robyn earned a Bachelors of Art from Claremont McKenna College and a Masters in Public Health from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This year she will begin working at the San Francisco Department of Public Health in Emergency Preparedness and Response.

As a parent of a young skater, I believe that active parent participation is vital and necessary to the success of youth sports organizations and feel it is important for parents to have a representative voice on the Board of SCSF. I would like to emphasize the building of programs that provide support to parents of young competitive and recreational athletes. In addition, I believe a strong sense of community within the club is important for the success of its members.
I have been involved with the skating community for the past four years and served as Secretary and Test Chair for The Skating Club of San Francisco, Inc. for the past two years. I have served on local organizing committees for club competitions and have also served as a CCIA delegate. Professionally, I have a private architectural practice in partnership with my husband in San Francisco.
It is an honor to be nominated to serve on the board of The Skating Club of San Francisco. I enthusiastically support all of the club's diverse skating programs. If elected, I will work diligently to ensure that the club continues to be managed in a professional manner. My objectives will be to expand the club's resources, membership, and reputation and provide top quality competitions for our athletes. I am a firm believer in open management and will have an ear for every member's concerns. While we all share a passion for skating and an interest in developing the sport, the most important thing is to have fun, be inclusive and supportive of all skaters, and provide a safe environment for athletes of all ages and abilities.

25 years experience in corporate finance, employed as US Tax Manager and Corporate Treasurer of ITV US Holdings a leading producer of US TV programs and a division of ITV PLC, Britain's largest commercial television broadcaster and TV production company.
I’ve been a member of The Skating Club of San Francisco since 2001 and a skater for 46 years. I’ve been competing as an adult practically from the time it was possible to do so in the regional and sectional championships (1992-1995) and as a participant in the Adult National FS Championships since inception (1995). I’ve been a member of the Adult Skating Committee of USFSA for three years. I’ve volunteered and participated in many of the SCSF competitions.
I would like to be on the Board of Directors for several reasons. First to represent the strong adult contingent with SCSF. We have one of the strongest adult contingents in the country. This is actually known throughout the world, as I just came back from the ISU Adult FS competition in Oberstdorf, Germany and everyone seemed to know about SF skaters. Second to support SCSF, help in its governance and be part of the SCSF team to enable the long SCSF tradition to continue to thrive. It’s great that SCSF supports so many types of figure skaters in its wide range of programs.
When not skating, I work as a psychologist (cognitive-behavioral therapist and neuropsychologist) in San Mateo. As part of my work, I’m always encouraging kids, adults and even older adults into physical activities, developing passions and finding balance in their life. There’s no question I’m fully addicted and committed to this sport and to our club.
Sam E. Singer, Jr.
I’ve been a member of The Skating Club of San Francisco for over 20 years, originally joining as a Junior Member in 1958 and re-joining the Club when it moved to Yerba Buena 1998. It’s been my pleasure and honor to serve as the Club’s President and a Board member for over 10 years. In supporting our Club’s mission to help skaters enjoy figure skating and achieve their individual goals, I’ve successfully led the project to update the Club’s bylaws, mission statement, and governance policies in order to re-incorporate the Club as a tax-exempt, public benefit corporation (IRS 501-c3) sports organization. As the Club now has tax-exempt status, we can further support skaters through indirect and direct financial support through our grant policy and, by having weekly Club ice sessions at Yerba Buena and formerly Belmont,
I’ve participated in judging our monthly test sessions, provided critiques to singles, dance, and pair skaters and our Theater on Ice and Tremors teams, given talks to parents and presented the Club’s status at our Annual Meetings.
I’ve established a positive, working relationship with the Corporate and Rink Management of both Yerba Buena Ice Center and Belmont Iceland, enabling the Club to successfully host the ‘Skate San Francisco’ and ‘Silver Spin’. Competitions.
I’ve been Chief Referee for Skate San Francisco for over 10 years, and am now its Competition Chair and have been Co-Chair of Silver Spin and Destination San Francisco I’m a National Singles/Pairs and Dance Judge, and Sectional Dance Referee. I’ve served in the following positions: Pacific Coast Sectional Vice Chair of Dance Judges (4 yrs); Regional Vice Chair of Dance Judges (3yrs); USFSA Audit Committee member (2 yrs); have served on the U.S. Figure Skating Audit Committee and Dance Committee; and, have organized schools for officials training – singles, pairs, and dance that have had attendees from all over the U.S.
Outside of skating, I’m a Sr. Audit Manager at Blue Shield of California, hold certifications in information systems auditing, security management, and IT governance, and have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Accounting from San Francisco State University, former President of the Silicon Valley Information Systems and Security Association (ISACA) Chapter, and am on the San Francisco ISACA Chapter’s Fall Conference Planning Committee.

I feel honored to be nominated to serve on the board of The Skating Club of San Francisco. Inc. I enthusiastically support all of the club's diverse skating programs.
If elected, I will work hard to make sure the Club continues to be managed in a professional manner.
