March 2017

To Whom It May Concern:

I would like to introduce you to The Skating Club of San Francisco.

As The Club celebrates its 85th Anniversary, I’m contacting you to seek your financial support for our upcoming, 85th Anniversary Fundraising Gala on April 1, 2017 at the Yerba Buena Ice Rink in San Francisco.

The Skating Club of San Francisco is the oldest skating membership club on the West Coast, and as part of US Figure Skating, is recognized by both the U.S. and International Olympic Committees. Over many decades our Club has produced National, World and Olympic figure skaters, in addition to providing a healthy and supportive environment for children and adults of any skill level to pursue their love of our sport.

It’s been a tremendous year for Bay Area skating, with The Skating Club of San Francisco skaters achieving 3 National medals as we approach next year’s 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. Many of them will skate at our April 1 Fundraising Gala.

All monies raised at the Gala will directly support Club skaters in the following ways:

  • Financial support to competitive skaters to defray training and competition costs

  • Financial support to skating teams - including synchronized skating and Theatre on Ice – to defray training and competition costs

  • Educational clinics for competitive skaters and parents

  • Ongoing training for skating coaches and judging officials

We have over 350 Club members and our limited annual budget comes from Club Member annual dues, competitions, skater testing sessions and fundraising efforts.

The Skating Club of San Francisco, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) California non-profit sports corporation. Our tax ID is #94-6085560. Your gift is tax-deductible as allowed by U.S. law. Donating to our fundraising Gala is easy, either on our website donation page http://scsf.org/donate , or via a check made out to The Skating Club of San Francisco, mailed to:

Check here for more information- http://www.usfigureskating.org/story?id=83958 What is S.T.A.R.S. and High Performance Movement Screen? S.T.A.R.S. Objectives-

  • Promote and enhance athleticism and athletic ability in all young figure skaters through assessment, recognition and opportunity

  • Reduce the rate of injury across all figure skating disciplines and competitive levels

  • Identify skaters who demonstrate exceptional aptitude for athleticism

  • Assist coaches and parents in developing and guiding their skater's potential

  • Connect skaters, coaches, and parents with qualified strength and conditioning specialists in their region and around the country.

  • Be challenging and fun!

INTRODUCING THE U.S. FIGURE SKATING HIGH PERFORMANCE MOVEMENT SCREEN (HPMS) The HPMS is a group of evaluations designed to give athletes, coaches and parents information in three key areas: mobility, stability and symmetry. The screen is designed to assess movement patterns in figure skaters to identify and treat mechanics that may prohibit optimal performance. The tests included are valid and reliable to assess mobility and stability in the lower extremity as well as a baseline test for concussion. Tests include the y-balance test, single leg squat, rotary stability, shoulder mobility, hip mobility and the balance error scoring system. The goal of the program is to minimize the risk of injury and maximize performance. Participating athletes receive a one-on-one screening completed by a physician, physical therapist or certified athletic trainer. Each athlete receives a detailed report flagging areas of concern as well as a thorough explanation of exercises and resources to correct flagged areas
