£1.8bn to Boost Local Growth
It was recently confirmed that £1.8 billion of Local Growth Funds will be made available to LEPS and this new round of funding will enable Coast to Capital to apply for a share of that pot to support projects in our region that will boost the local economy, bring in private sector funding and create jobs.

It is likely to be a highly competitive process, with a focus on high-quality schemes that leverage funding from other sources to deliver economic growth.  We have already launched a call for growth projects, however in light of the latest announcement the deadline has been extend to 29 April 2016 in order to give you as much time as possible to work on developing bids which are as innovative as possible and which will put us in the best possible position to win funds in a national competitive process. ESF Big Lottery Project Approved

Our first European Social Fund project co-funded through the Big Lottery Funding (BLF) has been approved to support social inclusion in our region. Royal British Legion Industries won a grant of £326,550 to deliver a project called ‘Inspiring the Working People of Tomorrow’ to work with 350 individuals who have been unemployed for some time and create opportunities for returning to work in our region. This is one of first BFL projects being approved nationally under ESF.

A new call co-funded under BLF is seeking projects under the specifications ‘Work Experience and Volunteering - Social enterprise’. More information and how to apply is available on the BFL website www.biglotteryfund.org.uk.

AME Sector Report

The Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME) sector was identified in our Strategic Economic Plan as being a sector that has great potential for jobs growth and productivity gains to the local economy. In our first ever report on the sector we find this potential beginning to be realised, but that there are also significant challenges to overcome.

Did you know that...

  • There are 3,400 Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering firms registered in the region which accounts for 4.4% of total businesses.
  • The sector accounts for 4.3% of employment.
  • Employs 33,000 people.
  • There was a 12% growth in AME businesses between 2010 and 2014.
  • 3% growth in employees over the same period.
  • Pockets of high growth in Worthing, Epsom and Ewell, Mole Valley, Brighton and Hove, and Chichester.
