Kansas State Animal Response Team Newsletter
Second Quarter - 2014

From the Board of Directors
Jan Hinshaw, DVM, CCRP, cVMA
President, KS State Animal Response Team

Hello everyone!

I would like to invite you all to attend the KS SART annual conference that is coming up on July 25-26, 2014, in Topeka, KS.  We will offer Human First Aid, Psych First Aid and Animal First Aid classes that every volunteer is required to re-certify every 2 years.  There will be other classes and training provided during this day and a half event.  Please check the KS SART website (and this newsletter) for the times and list of the classes available.

This conference is also a great way to meet and connect with members from other teams across the state.  If you are deployed to work a disaster, it makes it so much easier if you see some familiar faces.  This is also a good opportunity to see what other teams are doing, what training they are going to, what obstacles they have overcome and pick up some new ideas.  Please register early as there are limited hotel rooms available.

I would also like to extend a huge congratulations to the North West (Great Plains) Regional Animal Response Team.  Through a lot of hard work, they now have a CAMET trailer and a truck.  This just shows what team work can accomplish.

Applying for 501(c)(3) Made Easier
Carolyn Jergenson, KS SART Treasurer

Coming soon, a short form for small groups to apply for 501(c)(3) status - form 1023-EZ.  This form will be significantly shorter and much simpler to complete than the 1023 form that is currently used.

Also, a streamlined and faster process for IRS review of exempt status is included.  Applications that are complete and meet the 501(c)(3) rules will be automatically approved within a short time...as quickly as a few days.  These new procedures are expected to be fully implemented within the next few months.  If you have questions please contact Carolyn Jergenson.

North West (Great Plains) Regional Team Announcement

Congratulations!  This team applied for and received Homeland Security funding for a CAMET and a truck to pull it!  If you are interested in more details please contact Shannon Mongeau or Darlene Rose.  WAY TO GO!!!!!
