Spring 2016: News & Opportunities
Welcome Spring! There is nothing like bringing back shorts and t-shirts mid March- one of the best parts about living in Las Vegas! I hope you and your families are enjoying a lovely Spring Break.
We want to thank our wonderful supporters for helping us win the 2nd place prize for most unique donors in the Nevada Big Give on March 10th. Over 250 people came together to donate and we are so very grateful.
We are also excited to pass on a few opportunities for kinship families! On April 2nd from 12 - 4 PM join us at Tule Springs for the annual Ward 6 Spring Celebration! This festival is free and open to the public. In addition, there will be lots of resources for families and fun stuff for kids.
The National Kinship Alliance for Children and the National Foster Parent Association are coming together to hold a great conference right here in Las Vegas! It will be open to all kinship families, and offers a chance to get caught up on the latest in trauma-informed care, partnering with agencies and parents, dealing with troubling behavior, and taking care of yourself.
Are you advocacy-minded? There is an incredible opportunity to advocate nationally on behalf of Kinship Families for Generations United! Generations United is building a national network of relative caregiver advocates. You may even get a chance to travel to D.C. and speak on behalf of caregivers here in Nevada! If you are interested, email Ali@FosterKinship.org for the application.
Need some extra $$? Foster Kinship is hiring for several part-time positions! We are looking for experienced kinship caregivers who have an interest in helping to train new kinship families who are working with the Department of Family Services! If you are interested, please review the job descriptions and send your resume/cover letter to me directly at Ali@FosterKinship.org.
Don't forget- Foster Kinship support groups are the 2nd Monday of each month from 6-7:30 PM and dinner and childcare is provided. We will also be holding a back to school event this summer, so stay tuned for more information!
And because we can never get enough support, make sure you stay connected with us to find out about all our free events and services. You can find us on Facebook and Meetup and even request to join our closed Facebook support group just for kinship caregivers in Nevada. We focus on emotional support and accurate information regarding kinship care in Nevada!
Finally, we can't let March go by without thanking our incredible social workers at Foster Kinship: Nani, Sandra, and Cristina, thank you for all you do, and Happy Social Worker Month!
Have a wonderful day!
