IHDA Mortgage Aid, Utility Billing Relief Program, CPS Fall Reopening Plans and more

Dear Neighbor,

The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) is providing aid to homeowners and renters financially impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. This aid is in addition to the housing relief announced last week. Applications for the new Emergency Rental Assistance will be available on August 10th, while the Emergency Mortgage Grant Assistance Program will open on August 24th. Qualified applicants are encouraged to visit the IHDA website to learn more.

For those needing assistance paying utility bills, the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County (CEDA) and the City of Chicago established the Utility Bill Relief Program. To find out if you are eligible to receive a 50% rate reduction for water and sewer services, waived penalties on water shut-offs, and debt forgiveness, go to chicago.gov/UBR and apply today.

This weekend I joined Buena Park Neighbors, Sen. Sara Feigenholtz, and the 46th Ward Democrats for a mural unveiling and a cleanup event. It was great to see such a nice turnout (even in the rain!) to help beautify our diverse, vibrant community. A big thank you to all the volunteers and organizers who made the cleanup possible. Here are some pictures from the event:

In this newsletter, you will find information on the aforementioned housing and utility relief programs, updates on Chicago Public Schools' reopening plan for the fall, guidance and quarantine recommendations for Illinois residents traveling out-of-state, and news on bars now listed as eligible for outdoor 'sidewalk cafe' permits.

As always, if you have any general questions about services or specific COVID-19 guidelines, feel free to call our office at 773-348-8974; email us at info.staterepyoni@gmail.com; or visit coronavirus.illinois.gov. Also be sure to follow me on Facebook and Twitter for the most recent news and updates as we receive them.

Wishing you all the best - please stay safe and healthy.

Yours in service,

Chicago Public Schools Reopening Plan Update

Chicago Public Schools has announced that it will give parents until Friday, August 7th to enroll their children in part-time, in-person schooling or full remote learning instruction. Like many other school districts across the country, CPS provided its Preliminary Framework that accounts for a hybrid-model with reduced class sizes for in-school learning while also providing an entirely remote learning curriculum.

Read more about the CPS plan for parents here.

Quarantine Order for Out-of-State Travelers

To keep Chicagoans safe as cases rise across the country, 4 more states—including Wisconsin—were added to Mayor Lightfoot's Emergency Travel Order effective last Friday, July 31st. Travelers entering or returning to Chicago from these states should quarantine for 14 days.

Find more information at chicago.gov/coronavirus.

Bars Now Eligible for 'Sidewalk Cafe' Permits

Chicago's bars and taverns will now be eligible for outdoor sidewalk cafe permits, previously only available to restaurants and other establishments with a Retail Food License. Businesses are encouraged to apply with the city's Outdoor Dining Program to temporarily make use of the outdoor space for patrons.

Read more from Block Club Chicago here and how to apply for the permit here.
