SNAP Online Program Updates, Upcoming Public Meetings for CPS, and Housing Assistance Program Reminders

This weekend I joined Buena Park Neighbors and other neighborhood volunteers for a back-to-school spruce-up event at Brenneman Elementary School. It was great to see such a nice turnout (despite the intense heat!) to prepare our youth for a clean, safe learning environment. Thank you to Principal Patrina Singleton, Asst. Principal Daniel Postlethwait and to all the volunteers who came out and made the cleanup possible. Here are some pictures from the event:

Reminder: IHDA Emergency Rental Assistance Program Now Open, Mortgage Program Opening Next Week

Tuesday, August 10, the Illinois Housing Development Authority began accepting applications for Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) grants. Renters must apply directly through IHDA’s website: IHDA’s Emergency Mortgage Assistance (EMA) program opens on Aug. 21:

Chicago Volunteer Legal Services have built a self-help page on their website to assist applicants,

CPS Public Meeting Schedule Ahead of 2020-21 Academic Year

From CPS:

"The district is deeply committed to ensuring our students have a much more robust remote learning experience this Fall and we are supporting our families in most need with additional resources such as devices and high-speed internet access through the Chicago Connected program. We’ve enlisted a number of community-based organizations to support the registration process and follow up with qualifying families. 

As a reminder, we will present our overall budget and capital budget to our Board this month and we are hosting public meetings on each. Please refer to the meeting schedule below.

SNAP Online Purchasing Program Updates

A reminder that the Illinois Department of Human Services is offering online purchasing for more than 1.8 million Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) customers across a million households. Qualified recipients can register their SNAP EBT card through retailers such as Amazon or order online with Walmart.
