Gott’s Notes

We will be closed for the rest of the week. Please choose wisely and be safe. See you on Monday!

On a different note,  I would like to ask for everyone’s help in taking ownership and responsibility for our campus. Our cleaning crew is not responsible for our school grounds. If trash is all over the place, it will still be there the next day unless each of us takes responsibility. To all the students, please do your best each day to clean up after yourself inside and outside. Throw your lunch trash away, put your water bottles in recycling, and pick up anything extra you might see. Parents, if you can reinforce this with your kids, that would be greatly appreciated.

One other thing along these lines. Someone, once again, did some vandalism on our new swing pavilion. Harrison Clark, his family, his Boy Scout troop, and a few other volunteers put over $3000 dollars into this project. I want to thank them again for the awesome addition to our school. On the whole, the vast majority of students have been respectful and conscientious in taking care of the swings. I believe we can all do that. Please let me know if you see anyone mistreating any of our property. It is our home. Let’s keep it looking good!

Shout Out

A big shout out to Calley Sharon for donating a boat load of gorgeous art materials to the art room. She is mom to Carter and Cole and currently has work up on display at the Orange Spot Coffee House for the month of October. Thanks for connecting with our visual art department. We are excited to work with the new materials. 


Athletics

Middle School Basketball - We will hold an interest meeting next Wednesday, October 12th at 6:00 PM. The turnout for this meeting will determine whether or not we will host a boys &/or girls Middle School Basketball Team. Directions for registration will be provided that evening.

JV / Varsity Basketball - Please register online via PlanetHS.com. Both the Parent and Student need an account to register. Click HERE for more information. JV & Varsity Try outs begin October 31st.

Middle School, JV & Varsity sports carry a fee of $75.00 for the first sport, $50.00 for each additional. Please see Ms. Trubey if assistance is needed.

Dominican Republic Service Cruise Information

Dominican Republic Service Cruise - $100 deposit was due September 30th, make checks payable to PSA - turn in to Mrs. Hakamiun. As of 10/3/16, 16 of the available 32 slots have been filled.

Students! Want to give back to others and learn about a different culture? Join us on a community service trip to the Dominican Republic starting on July 29, 2017. We will be taking a trip on the Adonia, part of the Fathom cruise line on one of their social impact trips.

We will leave Charleston on July 29, 2017 and drive to Miami where we will spend the night before boarding the ship the next day. The ship will set sail from Miami on Sunday, July 30, 2017. The students will spend Monday on board learning about the culture and project expectations.

Fathom™ impact travel activities in the Dominican Republic include a wide range of projects focused on economic development, education and the environment. During the three days on the island, we will work directly alongside community members and various partner organizations, doing what they do, helping where they need us.

On Friday afternoon, the ship starts its journey back to Miami. We arrive back in Miami on Sunday, August 6, 2017, and return back to Charleston that evening. The trip cost will be $1000 per student and will include transportation to Miami, one night hotel stay, all meals, taxes and fees for the cruise, as well as program costs while in the Dominican Republic.

Counseling News - PSATs

PSAT will be given to all 8th, 10th and 11th grade students on Wednesday, October 19th. Our 8th graders are eligible for the Junior Scholar program by taking this test. Our 11th graders can qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program through the PSAT as well. 

Buy-A-Brick

If you get a chance, take a look at the walkway to the new swing gazebo. We have decided to incorporate the donated stones into this wonderful addition. The campaign will continue through this fall. If you are interested in purchasing one (or more), pick up a form in the office.
$100 regular paver (3 lines / 13 characters per line)
$500 larger stone (5 lines/15 characters per line)


Middle School Halloween Dance

The Middle School Halloween Dance will be held on October 28, 2016. More information will be sent out as MSHC decides the details. 

6th Grade Camp Kanuga Trip

The 6th graders are going to the Mountain Trail Outdoors School at Camp Kanuga. The
Mountain Trail Outdoors School at Camp Kanuga in Hendersonville, NC offers myriad team building and environmental programs (e.g., ecology, orienteering, high ropes course) against the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
 
Date: Oct.31 - Nov. 2, 2015 (Departing approximately 7 am, returning approximately 6 pm)
Cost of trip: $250 (includes charter bus transportation, food, lodging, and all activities)
The first installment of $100 is due August 31. Subsequent $75 installments are due September 28 and October 21.

Race for the Cure

Members of our Cross Country Team are running in the Race for the Cure on Saturday, Oct 15 on Daniel Island. The team’s fundraising goal is $500. If you would like to make a donation toward the cure for breast cancer, please consider making it under our team “Palmetto Scholars Academy Cross Country”. Go to komenlowcountry.org, Events, Race for the Cure, Donate & Search for a Team.

2017-2018 Applications now available. Deadline for applications to be entered into our lottery is December 16th, 2016. Please click HERE for the online application. Note -Siblings of current students will need to fill out an application. Returning students will have a different form which will be available in December.

PSA Spanish t-shirts

If anyone would like to order a PSA Spanish t-shirt, they can be ordered on https://www.imagemarket.com/80ebb97b. The cost is $15 and you can add a name on the back for $5. order online, but all payments should come to Mrs. Hudgens. All checks should be made out to PSA. All proceeds will go to help students traveling to Europe this spring.
