Dear iTREK Guest,
Some of you may have received an email from my former business partner in Nepal, Shree. I hesitated to respond to it but many former guests have reached out to me with concern so I just wanted to clarify a few things.
I have started a separate company with a different Operations Manager in Nepal. You can find information about the new business here - www.itrekeverest.com We have employed many of the guides from the former business and as tourism increases in Nepal we plan to hire more of them. In the end it was my choice to leave. The safety and care of our guides is our number one priority. Paying them a living wage and ensuring they have proper health care were not things I was willing to budge on. Not to mention the safety of our guests who deserve to have knowledgeable well equipped staff to assist them in an emergency.
I’m very excited to be working with our new team and many of them are world renowned climbers and leaders in Nepal. Our new Operations Manager, Ashok Rai, is absolutely amazing. After 6 years of working in the country I have not found a more dedicated, honest and wonderful group of people to partner with. If you’re familiar with the climbing community you might recognize some of them, Nirmal “Nims” Purja, David Minga Sherpa, to name a couple. They're superstars.
Our goal in running a trekking business in Nepal has always been to support the people, provide good paying jobs to locals and introduce travelers to this wonderful country. We fell in love with the people of Nepal just like many of you.
Sorry to have to write this email at all, I felt I needed to clarify my stance. I promise you won’t be getting spammed from me in the future and I won’t be engaging in any more back and forth with Shree. I will only share the occasional good news story going forward.
Of course we respect your decision to travel to Nepal with any company you’d like. If you choose to travel with us we look forward to helping you plan the trip of a lifetime to this wonderful country.
All the best,
Rick, Ashok & the iTREK Everest Team
