‘Classroom Connection’ brings UC Santa Cruz students into Pescadero schools
The college students have come to town. In late January, the lucky students of Pescadero Elementary got some cool new playmates: five students from UC Santa Cruz, who started a new program as classroom mentors. Puente wins double kudos for health care efforts
Puente unexpectedly received two major awards in January for its efforts to connect the South Coast’s rural, underserved population with quality health care. Puente allies keep the South Coast warm in winter
This winter, Bay Area residents have navigated from one crisis to the next. The season started out with record below-freezing nights in early December, the temperatures so dangerous that several homeless men died of exposure. Now an unprecedented high-pressure front heralds the worst drought of the last 100 years. And while most people remark on the weather only in passing, these extremes make a huge difference to farm workers living on the coast. The drought imperils their livelihoods. Día de los Niños/Children’s Day: supplies needed
Puente needs your help in purchasing books and bubbles for our Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) celebration, an annual event co-hosted by and the La Honda Pescadero Unified School District. This year our baby book gift bag will contain A is for Activist, by Innosanto Nagara. If you would like to help us buy some copies, please click here. We are also looking for bubble bottles. Zumbathon: time to dance!
Mark your calendar! Puente’s Second Annual Zumbathon is set for March 18. Last year the fundraiser had dozens of locals jumping, spinning and grinning together. For details, stay tuned to Puente’s calendar page.

Tax prep volunteers needed ASAP
