Warm Greetings in Christ!

Once again, we are coming to the close of another Summer. Some of you may be happy to see your kids heading back to school, others may be saying this is all happening way too fast. No matter how you feel about summer slowly ending, remember football is just around the corner!

Seriously, this can be a challenging time of transitions for many as they pack the kids off to college or a higher grade in school. The house seems empty, and the routines start making their way back into our daily lives. We also know this is a time for people to look to the church once again for inspiration and fellowship.

I encourage each of us to help provide that inspiration and fellowship to each other but more importantly to others in our community. Support each other in this time of transition and invite others to be a part of the body of Christ.

Hebrews 10:24-25 tells us, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and even more as you see the Day approaching.”

Spur one another on toward love and good deeds, what a powerful message as we work to help each other head into fall and back into routines, and what a perfect time to make sure church is at the top of your list of priorities. The New Living Translation says let us not ignore meeting together. Community is a vital part of our Christian growth, so I encourage you today if you are not already plugged into the community of faith to take that first step. Do not miss the blessings and support. If you are active in our church community, make it a priority to spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

Another part of community is setting a good example for self-care. Our United Methodist Book of Discipline encourages elders, deacons, and local pastors to take continuing education and spiritual growth leave of one week per year and a full month every four years (Par. 351.2). I have been in full-time ministry since 2009 and have never taken a time of spiritual growth as mentioned above. After coming through the COVID-19 pandemic I have found my soul needs renewed. With this being said it has been approved by the SPPRC and the District Superintendent that I will be taking a renewal leave from October 1- October 31, 2022. I feel confident that Pastor JP will be filling in with pastoral care issues and helping to lead worship along with Jim Painting. Our Discipleship Board and other Ministry Teams will not be gathering for their regular meetings while I am on leave, but the ministry of the church to make disciples who make disciples will carry on.

I will miss each of you during my time away but strongly feel I will be refreshed and renewed for what our next season of ministry together will bring.

I look forward to seeing each of you on Sunday-

Pastor Kimberly

Mission News

Midwest Mission Distribution Center sent us a thank you for our generous donations of the cleaning supplies, buckets, laundry detergent, towels, and hygiene products we sent to the East Ohio Annual Conference.  Our East Ohio Conference gave 8,340 lbs of goods.  We were the second highest conference in the number of pounds given to the Midwest Mission Distribution Center.   In the MMDC’s summer newsletter were listed the 10 US Disaster Relief Shipments that have been sent in 2022.  Included in these were the Christian Children’s Home of Ohio and The Nehemiah Mission of Cleveland.  29 international shipments have been sent so far in 2022.

LeAnn Eyerman had asked us to join in prayer for upcoming strategic meetings in Mongolia regarding the operations and future of the ministry consortium there.  She wanted us to know they did experience God moving through the discussion of those gathered for these meetings in mid-May.  Now she would like us to pray for wisdom in working with local partners to develop appropriate projects, as well as for willing mission workers from overseas to respond to God’s call to go to Mongolia to serve alongside local partners.

Africa University broke ground for the new women’s residence hall that you all helped contribute to the past two years.  On June 11, 712 graduates from 18 African countries graduated in the university’s 28th graduation ceremony.  The first three graduates receiving their Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health were also awarded.

Church Wide Fall Study: Discipleship Explored:

At the beginning of the summer with the help of a prayer and discernment team, we identified an amazing study that we feel speaks to every believer and to us as a whole at Carrollton First UMC. The study is called Discipleship Explored based on Paul’s letter to the Philippians and focuses on finding a deep union with Christ through which we can find joy in suffering and strength in unity, the value of contentment, and much more. We felt it would be extremely beneficial and powerful to do this as a church wide study. We would love for each and everyone of you to join us.

We already have a number of groups ready to start and would love to launch more. Here is a link to a trailer on this study that I would love for you to check out:
Discipleship Explored Trailer. You can also join us on August 28th at the Bridge following the service to learn more at our Discipleship Base Camp or after the 9:00 a.m. service at the Yellow Brick Church on September 4th.
