Cartas a Papá Noel

Here are some pretty cute letters to Santa (including spelling errors) and funny responses from "Papá Noel":

Tu amigo.
Papá Noel

Querido Papá Noel:
Me gustaría una patineta, una bici
un pony y una guitarra eléctrica. He sido muy bueno y no he hecho travesuras.
Te quiero mucho. Albertito

Querido Alberto:
En primer lugar, ¿Cómo es que me quieres si ni siquiera me conoces? Por otro lado, sé que no has hecho travesuras porque has estado en una cama todo el año.
Papá Noel

December Student

Spotlight

Paul Panek -- Nashville, TN

 1) ¿Nombre?  Me llamo Paul Panek.

2) ¿Dónde vives?  Yo vivo en Hermitage.

3) ¿Dónde trabajas? Yo trabajo en Genco Inc.

4) How long have you been studying Spanish with SLWED and who is your teacher?

I’ve been studying Spanish with SLWED since last June. My teacher is Lindsay Richardson. Lindsay has been just excellent. I’ve been very fortunate.

5) Where would you like to use your Spanish?

I wish to use it on a mission trip to a Latin American country within the next year or two. My daughter-in-law and her family are originally from Peru as I wish to converse in Spanish with them on a higher level. There are also some Spanish speakers at my job that I enjoy practicing with on a daily basis.

6) What advice or words of encouragement would you give to someone who is just starting to learn Spanish?

I have a Minor in German, so this is my second attempt at learning a new language. I know that it takes time and determination. Practice, practice, practice. Try to learn a new word every day. Access all of the free language software online and on YouTube. It will definitely get easier as you go and the rewards are endless.

7) What is your favorite Spanish singer or band or favorite Spanish song?

My favorite Spanish singer is definitely Selena (Quintanilla). She meant so much to so many and still does to this day. I think her music will be around forever.

8) What countries have you traveled to or would you like to visit?

I am retired military and have traveled all over Europe as well as Korea and Japan, but have never visited any Spanish speaking country. I’m hoping fairly soon to visit possibly Mexico or Guatemala on a Mission trip.

9) How have you used your Spanish? Any interesting stories how it came in handy?

There have been a couple of times I have eaten at fast food restaurants where a customer spoke little or no English, when trying to order and the workers spoke no Spanish. It felt really great to be the Spanish\English go between for both. One family was hesitant to allow me to assist them initially, but in the end they were very appreciative. Moments like those give you a great feeling and the motivation to continue to improve your language skills.

10) What is your favorite thing about learning Spanish with SLWED?

The emphasis for this type of Spanish learning is on conversation and listening. SLWED has discovered what most people want in a language learning course. We take the classes for fun and for our own personal goals. Everyone who puts in the effort and study time will definitely see results. I also love that my classes meet at a Panera Bread. Their Hazelnut coffee and macadamia cookies are second to none.
